Status: Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary  

The Performance Improvement Consultant plays a critical role in advancing a culture of data-informed decision making and performance improvement at UHN. This is a dynamic role requiring adaptability and the ability to pivot across three core areas of focus: 

  • Analytics interpretation and performance management: help teams draw insights from data and connect insights to workflows to enable data-driven decision making  
  • Project management: coordinate key initiatives, engage stakeholders, and advance work in line with identified milestones and timelines  
  • Improvement enablement: support Lean capability development, facilitate communities of practice, and coach teams in applying improvement tools 

The ideal candidate thrives in a complex environment, moves fluidly between diverse workstreams, and brings strong skills in data literacy, stakeholder engagement, project management, and continuous improvement. 

Duties

  • Support the adoption of a performance management system. Partner with teams to interpret performance data, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate insights into recommendations to enable data-driven decision making. 
  • Build positive relationships with clinical programs and Data & Analytics teams, ensuring clear communication and engagement, to identify data needs and support interpretation of analytics aligned to workflows. 
  • Lead projects from planning to implementation that advance strategic and operational goals, maintaining scope and timely delivery, and ensuring alignment across stakeholders. Recognize risks or issues proactively and identify potential mitigation strategies to resolve them effectively.  
  • Prepare and deliver materials (presentations, reports, etc.) summarizing project milestones, outcomes, and recommendations to project teams, committees, and leadership audiences. 
  • Support Lean and continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to coaching, communities of practice, and spread of improvement approaches.  
  • Promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement through engagement, education, and data storytelling. 
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate Degree in Health Science, Health Informatics, Health Administration, Business, or Industrial/Process Engineering, or related field (master’s degree an asset). 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, ideally involving performance management and/or improvement work. 
  • Extensive knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and/or quality improvement methodology required. 
  • Strong data literacy and analysis skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate data insights effectively to a non-technical audience. 
  • Skilled at relationship-building and influencing across organizational levels without direct authority. 
  • Experience supporting diverse, large-scale initiatives. Strong organizational and project management skills; able to keep teams aligned and work moving forward.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience delivering presentations and facilitating discussions with diverse audiences. 
  • Experience applying quality improvement methodology and tools to solve problems and drive a culture of continuous improvement.  
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational materials, facilitate training sessions, and coach teams in improvement methodologies. 
  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity, prioritize, and adapt quickly to evolving priorities across data analytics, project management, and continuous improvement work.
