INSEAD is seeking a Specialist, Acquisitions to join our Research and Innovation Department. This is a full-time, permanent contract position based at our Europe Campus in Fontainebleau, France. A hybrid working model is in place – 3 days on campus, 2 days from home.
About the job
As the Specialist, Acquisitions, you will play a key role in enriching INSEAD's research and learning environment at our Europe Campus. By strategically acquiring and curating our print and e-book collections, you will directly support the academic community. You will also be a vital point of contact for our users, providing on-demand education and coordinating the delivery of course-pack materials. This position is central to enhancing the department's mission of providing exceptional resources and services.
Your role within the team
- Acquisition:
- Coordinate daily operations for acquisitions in print and digital book formats.
- Monitor service contracts & subscriptions.
- Track expenditure and status of orders.
- Assess and keep the collections relevant for excellence in research and teaching.
- Collection Management:
- Oversee an efficient and effective selection & processing of materials in all formats, including gifts & donations, working closely with staff, publishers, and vendors.
- Track, adapt and adopt best practices for collection development in a digital environment.
- Launch and lead weeding projects as needed.
- Track and monitor the book book budget, including e-books.
- Cataloguing:
- Handle cataloguing functions for all physical and e-book collections for Asia campus. Ensures record accuracy and quality control.
- Facility:
- Optimise shelf space through weeding projects.
- Support in maintaining a library space for a modern, quiet and comfortable place to study, focus and ‘deep-think’.
- Promotion & Customer Service:
- Keep abreast of latest activities & developments in higher education, supports on-demand user education, to promote print & digital resources.
- UX:
- Coordinate and ensure record accuracy and quality control, and increase resource discovery for a better user experience with Europe Campus counterparts.
- Participate in INSEAD initiatives to promote INSEAD Publications and library collections.
The ideal candidate profile
- Basic/post degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited degree program or equivalent accredited national degree, or related subjects.
- 3 to 5 years experience in research intensive higher Ed schools, Business schools preferred
- 3 to 5 years Experience in Information or Library Science preferred
- Experienced with acquisition and cataloguing skills, metadata bonus
- Understands licensing and copyright matters
- Self-motivated and be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Take ownership for solving clients demands and ensuring timely and adequate answers.
- Ability to handle heavy materials
- Knowledge of the MARC formats and standards for bibliographic and authority data
- Knowledge of the Library of Congress Subject Heading and classification system
- Experience with LMS, Koha preferred
- Quality-control oriented
