As the client’s main contact person, the Account Director fosters a strong relationship built on trust with both the client and internal teams, understands like no other the client’s business needs and challenges and Banfield’s business objectives and goals. They are responsible for the overall management of global, national and local accounts, always striving to push the standards on agency output and maximization of client relationship, ROI and account profitability.
Reports To: VP, Director of Client Services
Objectives of this role:
- Direct all aspects related to keeping the client – agency relationship optimal.
- Lead and manage high-profile client accounts.
- Act as gatekeeper and go to person in between agency and clients.
- Be at the forefront of identifying creative and strategic innovation opportunities.
- Ensure in-depth awareness of the different fields of play (industry, brand, etc.) and relaying this information to the team.
- Assure agency resources are marshaled and effectively applied to the account(s).
- Oversee and direct workflow and progress of assigned teams.
- Oversee all stages of project planning, executions and deployment to ensure highest level of quality is always met.
Summary of responsibilities:
- Motivate and inspire teams to generate imaginative, innovative work and solutions.
- Establish clear directions, set stretching objectives and define clear tasks for team in a well-planned and organized manner.
- Oversee the development and execution of strategic marketing and advertising plans.
- Be up to date on client strategic goals and objectives.
- Day to day management of team as they relate to client needs, goals and objectives.
- Write (or supervise Account Executive’s) detailed creative briefings and contact reports for client requirements.
- Lead brainstorming/briefing meetings with Creative Director, Strategy Director, Writers, Account Coordinator, Artists, as required.
- Act as day-to-day go-to person for Strategy team and Creative Directors.
- Build and review detailed schedules/gantt charts and estimates.
- Lead and mentor Account Executives to monitor projects through all phases for accuracy, timeliness and budget including preparation of plans, proposals, estimates and invoices.
- Keep senior management informed of any issues affecting the overall health and profitability of the account.
- Prepare monthly revenue projections for your designated clients.
- Generate sense of excitement internally for new and existing projects.
- Pro-actively assist in development of Banfield self-promotion materials.
Business development duties
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on agency growth strategies.
- Present Banfield capabilities, portfolio and creative pitches effectively to clients.
- Contribute to writing and compiling effective proposals for existing and new accounts.
- Actively search for business development opportunities within existing clients.
- Participate in pitches and presentations to prospective clients.
What you bring:
- 10+ years of experience in marketing or advertising, including several years leading at a senior-level
- Proven ability to build trust with clients and teams by aligning business objectives with creative strategies
- Skilled in managing complex, integrated projects—developing plans, building estimates, coordinating teams, and ensuring delivery on time and on budget
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a commitment to staying current in a constantly evolving industry
- Clear, confident communicator—comfortable leading meetings, presentations, and strategic discussions
- Strong financial management capabilities, including budgeting, scoping, and managing project profitability
- Organized and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to prioritize, report, and manage competing demands
- Passionate about delivering high-impact work and consistently pushing for creative and strategic innovation
- Able to work independently while fostering a collaborative and respectful team environment
