The Certified Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and applying ICD and CPT codes per official coding guidelines with a specific focus on professional primary care and urgent care visits. The position services as a subject matter expert to providers and staff for questions and updates related to coding.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
This position is hybrid. Training will be on site full time for 6 months in Michigan City. After that, you will transition hybrid to work 4 days remote and 1 day on site. The first 3 business days of the month will also be on site.
Reviews E/M, procedure codes, and diagnosis codes for accuracy.
Reviews and analyzes the content of the EMR to determine when documentation should be utilized for appropriate assignment of ICD diagnosis codes.
Remove duplicate charges that may drop in the billing sessions.
Verify insurance eligibility and update electronic medical record registration, as appropriate.
Accurately reviews EMR to verify all services provided are accurately captured.
Communicate electronically with the provider and or operations for documentation or clarification to support codes.
Understand how diagnosis and procedure codes, and reimbursement methodologies are utilized for reimbursement.
Audits and analyzes software system and charts to identify trends and issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma/GED - Required
Associate's Degree Health Information Management - Preferred
1 year ICD-10 Coding - Preferred
CCS, CCS-P, CCA, or CPC - Required
