Inside the Role

Each Director role in Production and Supplier Management has a unique set of responsibilities. The Director of Supplier Management is responsible for several key DTNA topics, as well as Global responsibilities. As the Director you will work directly with the General Manager on the strategic direction for TT/GN, and will serve as a critical change agent within the organization. This role is the key account manager for North America Operations, responsible for ensuring fulfillment of the material requirements for the Manufacturing Plants. The standard processes for Material Planning and Supplier Management are established in this team. It is also responsible for material planning for Major Components, Mechatronics, and for the York Dressed Axle location. The Director is the chair of the Global Supplier Management Satellite Board, and has the Global Supplier Management Team, working with the rest of the globe to develop the future of Supplier Management at Daimler Truck and Bus, ensuring accomplishment of the 3 year GSM strategy. This position is the face to the DTNA Supplier Base for Production. The successful candidate will be adept at presentation and messaging preparation, public speaking, and executive communications both external and internal. They will lead the strategy for Digitalization of the Supply Chain, ensure consequent Project Management, and will build out a new function, Supply Base Development, which will ensure an approved supplier set that is equipped to meet the needs of our production.

Please note: This role will be open to those who can relocate to Portland, OR under a local contract. This is not an Ex-Pat assignment.

What You Drive at DTNA

  • Serve as critical change agent and sparring partner with General Manager to develop and scope strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the annual cycle of Strategy Development for TT/GN, with a focus on bringing Procurement and Supplier Management together to create synergies and realize the benefits of the regional and global mergers.
  • Drive execution in the GSM board, lead the Global Supplier Management Satellite board, and local team, to achieve the 3 year strategy.  Introduce a new model for global steering of the supply base in a centralized and standardized system, process, and KPIs.  Serve on the Global Resilience Board and Procurement Governance Boards.
  • Lead peers across the Globe in finding optimal solutions, implement initiatives out of the GSM Board and other global topics in the supply chain.
  • Work with IT and stakeholders to digitalize the supply chain in North America and globally.  Oversee the implementation of AI, Data integrity, and Analytics to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in our processes.
  • Ensures outstanding supplier performance.  Developing KPIs, targets, initiatives, processes and standards to ensure suppliers ship the proper quantity at the right time at the best cost. 
  • Responsible for the delivery of major components and Mechatronics, working closely with DDC and TT/GN4.  Responsible for York Dressed Axle Operations.
  • Regularly interface with the manufacturing plants on continuous improvement and strategy topics. 
  • Oversee annual and periodic scenario planning for the supply base, work collaboratively with CAE, Manufacturing Engineering, Sales and Product Strategy to resolve and manage constraints with optimal customer outcomes.  Identify risks and mitigation plans emerging from the sales, and production plans annually
  • Lead the creation of Supply Base Development as a new function within TT/GN with global potential.  This team is also the internal resilience representative owner, interfacing closely with the Global Resilience Board.
  • Lead TT/GN material flow activities, standard and ad-hoc reporting, and supplier onboarding to achieve a seamless transmission of information. 
  • Scope, approve, and deliver communications for our Supply Base, including Webcasts, SupMan letters, Supplier Dialogue Days, etc…
  • Communicate professionally in writing, on video and on stage.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or similar, and 12 years of related experience leading Supply Chain organizations
  • Strong Supply Chain / Supplier Management Background, Supplier Requirements at DTNA
  • Knowledge of the DTNA Production and 3PL Network, Truck Models, Capacities, Connections
  • Experience working and collaborating with Global Executives across the Daimler Truck and Bus Network
  • Negotiation and Supplier Problem Resolution Experience
  • Strong Strategic Thinking
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets, timelines, PMO operations
  • Executive Communication and Presentation
  • Process / Standard / Governance Development Experience
  • Continuous Improvement Experience
  • An attached resume is required

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Masters Degree, specifically an MBA is preferred
  • Aftermarket Supply Chain Background
  • Lean / Shingo / Six Sigma certifications, or similar type of certification or training
  • Operations, Procurement or Powertrain experience
