The Financial Data Analyst is a sharp, detail-oriented instrumental part of the Accounting Department, who can independently manage report automation, billing and revenue discrepancy investigations, and cross-functional analytical projects. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills in Excel and reporting systems, along with experience supporting financial planning, data integrity, and decision-making across finance, operations, and business development.

The starting pay for this position is expected to be $33 to $45 per hour. Exact compensation is based on skills, experience, education, and location.


This is a remote position, reporting to a company in California. Must be able to work Pacific (PST) hours.


Job Duties

  • Design, build, and automate financial and operational reports using Excel and Sage Intacct.
  • Structure and analyze large datasets to support monthly reporting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop dashboards and data visualizations that communicate financial trends and key insights for internal teams and leadership.
  • Investigate and resolve data discrepancies in billing, invoicing, or reporting systems (e.g., CargoWise, WorldTrak, CTSI, Raft).
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Accounting, Operations, Business Development) to identify data needs and deliver reporting solutions.
  • Provide reporting and analysis support for the Business Development and Executive team for customer-level financial inquiries and custom data pulls.
  • Maintain and validate standard report templates and queries; support data interpretation for non-finance users.
  • Assist with pre-close financial analysis and forecast inputs.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes through automation and report standardization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, filters, interest formulas).
  • Able to communicate effectively and collaborate with team members cross-functionally to achieve common goals. Sees opportunities to supports other team members.
  • Able to express ideas and information clearly, concisely, and accurately both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates active listening and seeks to understand others perspectives.

  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and efficiency. Plans and organizes work, manages time well, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and completes initiatives with minimal errors. 
  • Uses excellent time management skills to implement identified priorities and manage resources effectively.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field plus 3–5 years of experience in roles such as FP&A, Accounting Analyst, Revenue or Operations Analyst or other supporting roles
  • Experience working with large volumes of data
  • Demonstrated success working independently in a fully remote environment.
  • Proven ability to clean, transform, and analyze data across multiple systems (e.g., Sage, CargoWise, WorldTrak, Concur, Raft, Payex)
  • Comfortable working across multiple systems (e.g., Sage, CargoWise, WorldTrak, Concur, Raft, Payex)
  • Logistics, freight forwarding, or B2B services industry experience a plus
  • Preferred but not required - coursework or certifications in:
  •        Excel or data analysis (e.g., LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, or community college courses)
  •        Systems training (CargoWise, SAP, QuickBooks, NetSuite, etc.)
  •        Intermediate accounting or audit modules if degree was in a related but not direct field

Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's essential functions require the following physical demands: operating a computer, remaining stationary for most of the shift, and occasionally moving about the workspace. The person in this position frequently exchanges information using email and other electronic communication methods and must be able to observe and report on communication received via phone and computer.
