Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a pivotal part in maintaining our financial records, preparing financial statements, and delivering critical insights for informed decision-making. As a Senior Accountant, you will collaborate closely with the finance team, assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensure the organization's compliance with accounting standards. Your extensive experience in accounting principles (GAAP), meticulous attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team will be fundamental to the success of this position.

The starting pay for this position is expected to be $75,000 - $95,000 depending on skills, experience, education, and location.


This is a remote position, reporting to a company in California.  Must be able to work pacific (PST) hours.


Job Duties - Sr. Accountant

  • Prepare and meticulously analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, flux analysis, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
  • Take a lead role in the month-end and year-end closing processes, encompassing journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Maintain, oversee, and reconcile general ledger accounts, ledgers, and financial records with the utmost precision.
  • Monitor and perform in-depth analysis of budget-to-actual variances, offering strategic recommendations for cost control and process enhancements.
  • Perform comprehensive account reconciliations and actively resolve discrepancies.
  • Scrutinize and validate the accuracy of financial reports and records, demonstrating a keen eye for detail.
  • Actively participate in both internal and external audits, providing substantial support in the preparation of audit schedules.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of advanced accounting policies and procedures aimed at enhancing efficiency and compliance.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, delivering financial information and valuable insights for sound decision-making
  • Remain well-informed about changes in accounting regulations, financial best practices, and industry trends, ensuring that the organization remains compliant and ahead of the curve.
  • Respond to and support inbound departmental inquiries and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Prepare special tax returns.
  • Contribute to developing new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
Requirements
  • A minimum of six years of professional experience in accounting, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for robust data analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, reflecting your extensive experience.
  • Unwavering attention to detail, reflecting your commitment to precise financial reporting.
  • Profound knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting software, such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, SAP, or Oracle, is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in delivering world-class customer service skills through problem-solving, rapport building, and effectively de-escalating high-pressure conversations with patience and decorum.
  • Leads with humility and respects others, promotes a culture of safety, trust, and teamwork. Self-regulates emotions, displaying a calm demeanor.
  • Communicates with clarity and confidence. Employs active listening and strong negotiation skills when necessary.
  • Uses independent judgment and can identify problems, and root-cause, and develop practical solutions. Generates new ideas to support change and creatively solves problems.  

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance plus a minimum of 6 years of experience in accounting or accounts payable or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Physical Requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's essential functions require the following physical demands: operating a computer, remaining stationary for most of the shift, and occasionally moving about the workspace. The person in this position frequently exchanges information using email and other electronic communication methods and must be able to observe and report on communication received via phone and computer.
