Position Overview
The Vice President, Workers' Compensation, Defense Base Act, and Leisure Travel Claims is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and financial performance of the company’s Workers’ Compensation, Defense Base Act (DBA), and Leisure Travel Claims portfolios. This executive will lead a high-performing team, ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, drive best-in-class claims management practices, and collaborate closely with underwriting, actuarial, legal, and risk management functions. The role reports directly to the Global Chief Claims Officer and is a key member of the claims leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for Workers’ Compensation, DBA, and Leisure Travel Claims operations in alignment with corporate objectives.
- Identify and implement process improvements, technology enhancements, and innovative solutions to drive efficiency and superior claim outcomes.
- Operational Excellence:
- Oversee end-to-end claims management, ensuring timely, accurate, and fair resolution of claims.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve claims performance, customer satisfaction, and financial results.
- Ensure robust quality assurance and audit processes are in place.
- Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to Workers’ Compensation, DBA, and Leisure Travel Claims.
- Ensure all claims operations comply with federal, state, and international regulatory requirements, including Department of Labor (DOL) and Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) for DBA.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of claims professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, clients, brokers, and reinsurers.
- Represent the company at industry forums, conferences, and regulatory meetings as needed.
- Financial Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for the assigned claims portfolios.
- Analyze loss trends, reserve adequacy, and claim costs to inform pricing, reserving, and risk management strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (JD, MBA, or similar) preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of progressive experience in commercial property and casualty insurance claims, with significant expertise in Workers’ Compensation, and Defense Base Act.
- Demonstrated success in a senior leadership role managing large, complex claims operations.
- Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing Workers’ Compensation and DBA claims.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a dynamic, matrixed environment.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and loss reserves.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to travel as needed
