Academic Support Law Faculty FellowJob Summary:
The University Of San Francisco School Of Law seeks dynamic, energetic, and experienced applicants for its Academic Support Program (ASP). ASP is one component of the comprehensive academic support services provided to all law students.ASP provides assistance to applicants who have been culturally, educationally, economically, or historically disadvantaged, who have not been in an academic setting for a number of years, or who may be the first in their families to go to law school. Students selected for ASP are required to attend a two-week summer orientation program designed to foster a sense of community and to introduce strategies for academic excellence. Throughout the entire first year, ASP conducts exam rehearsals and ASP staff meets individually with the students to evaluate academic progress, work on writing skills, and discuss personal issues as necessary.
The ASP Law Faculty Fellow will work closely with the ASP Director and other members of the academic support team (ABES). The ASP Law Faculty Fellow will participate in all aspects of the Academic Support Program and collaborate with the Director on: program development, scheduling, meeting individually with students, teaching study skills and legal analysis skills, reading and commenting on students’ written work, attending faculty and departmental meetings, training and monitoring tutors and tutor lesson plans and tutorial materials and developing materials for an exam rehearsal class.

Job Responsibilities
Provide individual counseling, assignments, and feedback to first-year ASP students
Assist in the Mandatory ASP 2-week Summer Program
Teach 2-3 sections weekly for 2 hours each in an Exam Rehearsal type 1L class (1L subjects: Torts, Civil Procedure, Contracts, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure)
Assist in coordination and implementation of ASP curriculum, which includes weekly first year Exam Rehearsal classes in all 1L subjects (see above)
Assist with teaching and providing of individualized feedback and grading for ASP students
Collaborate with the ASP/ABES Tutoring Program to support ASP students
In conjunction with the ASP Director, manage the ASP calendar and tutor schedules, including making copies for tutors and reserving rooms for study groups and office hours
Perform research, data collection, and analysis on the program
Publicize the program to the student body and coordinate other marketing and communication tasks
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
JD degree required, ASP alum preferred
Candidate must have successfully passed the California Bar Exam
Superior reading, writing and editing skills
At least two years of academic support, teaching, or counseling experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Experience in assessing student academic progress and designing and implementing individually tailored measures to improve performance is preferred
Knowledge of educational theory, including non-cognitive factors, such as stereotype threat, is a plus
The candidate must also show a long-term commitment to working with individuals from various backgrounds and knowledge of multicultural factors
Understanding and commitment to USF’s mission, vision, and values. In addition, the candidate must be able to work creatively and collaboratively with a team of academic support personnel, faculty, staff, student teaching assistants, and student organizations.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Professional academic office and classroom settings.
Some work may be done remotely, but exam rehearsals, individual meetings and office hours will be in person. ASP thrives with in person connection as students tend to stop by without appointments.
Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds to transport teaching materials.
The candidate must be able to begin on or before August 1, 2025.
This is a one-year, full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month contract position.
