A Brief Overview
The HIM ROI Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the day-to-day supervision, scheduling, and operation of the Release of Information service for both hospital and clinic processes. They must maintain confidentiality and accuracy with patient information documents, ability to multi-task and maintain steady communication

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Associate's Degree Preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • 3 years Experience in a medical office. Required


Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain all equipment in safe and proper working conditions and reports any malfunctions as appropriate. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates the ability to relate well to all levels of hospital staff and maintain a professional relationship with Medical Staff members; addressing physicians, co-workers and visitors in a pleasant and respectful manner, with courtesy at all times. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • RHIT/RHIA Preferred

What you will do

  • Supervision of duties for the Release of Information Specialists and ROI Coordinator and other staff assisting with ROI duties.
  • Fufilling release of information hospital requests from the public, attorneys, insurance, subpoenas, audits, physician offices, other health care facilities, and any requests for the release of hospital patient information in a timely manner according to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Collects and accounts for the fees related to revenue generated from releasing health information, as well as preparing invoices for pre-billing appropriate customers and following up on outstanding invoices.
  • Answering telephone and messages, uses appropriate telephone etiquette, handles telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for patient confidentiality.
  • Coverage and assistance for Mayo eConsults when requested.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality practices on a daily basis.
  • Consistently works with customers by means of a professional mannerism. Knows when to notify departmental director for assistance when situations with customers become unsolvable.
  • Always strives to make good use of time, seeks out work that needs to be done, reports free time to departmental leadership, and seeks guidance as necessary for performance of duties.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of all medical record indices and computer systems as required for accurate retrieval and location of patient records, verification of patient name and numbers etc.
  • Routinely uses policy and procedure manuals and other reference materials as necessary to ensure proper course of action and, adheres to HIM and SVH policies.
  • Keeps the ROI team updated and on track with HIM and SVH policies.
  • Does not allow unimportant interruptions to waste time at the expense of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • When requested, is willing to adjust personal schedule in order to complete extra workload due to increase patient activity, staffing reductions, or in preparation for special inspection.
  • Attempts to recognize and evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses, handles personal and professional frustrations appropriately.
