Boulder County Housing Department is hiring a Support Specialist for our Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program. This position provides personalized, one-on-one assistance to low-income families striving to achieve self-sufficiency. This role plays a vital part in empowering families by guiding them in setting achievable goals, identifying systemic and personal barriers, and connecting them with essential resources to foster long-term stability.

This is a full-time, benefitted, grant-funded position. The work schedule is typically Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm with ability to flex hours to provide early evening client support as needed. This is a remote/hybrid position with in-office requirements at partner site in Boulder as needed. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt.


Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.


Hiring Salary Range: $62,520.00 - $76,284.00 Annually



Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening:  August 14th

  • First Round Interviews: August 19th- August 21st

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each monthBoulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

Position Duties

  1. Provide direct support to program participants, helping them navigate challenges related to economic stability, education, employment, health, and housing.
  2. Conduct program interviews as part of the intake and assessment process, ensuring participants receive tailored guidance and support.
  3. Develop and implement strategies for program growth and continuous improvement, incorporating best practices for serving marginalized households facing systemic barriers.
  4. Engage in community outreach to strengthen partnerships with local human services agencies that provide essential support to low-income families.
  5. Collaborate closely with the FSS Program Coordinating Committee and other stakeholders to optimize service delivery.
  6. Complete and maintain HUD documentation related to FSS enrollment, participant progress, and exit reports, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
  7. Work alongside partner financial teams to oversee escrow accounts, track progress, and help families maximize financial benefits.
  8. Build and sustain strong working relationships with Boulder County Human Services and key partner organizations, such as Boulder Housing Partners, EFAA, OUR Center, and Sister Carmen Community Center, to ensure comprehensive support for participants.
  9. Conduct travel-based outreach and provide flexible scheduling to meet with families at their workplaces, schools, and homes to offer direct support.
  10. Perform administrative duties related to various components of the FSS program, ensuring efficient program execution and service accessibility.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of 6 years of combined education and experience in social or human services, case management, counseling, mental health field, or related fields.

Other Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field
  • Experience working with marginalized households, particularly those facing significant challenges related to the social determinants of health (such as income instability, lack of access to education, and health disparities).
  • Strong knowledge of self-sufficiency resources, including GED classes, the PIE program, workforce development programs, and other local support services.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships and leverage community partnerships to benefit program participants.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse individuals and families with empathy and respect.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Boulder County as needed to provide direct service and support.
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate family needs, work schedules, and school commitments.
