On average consultants receive 7-10 assigned hours per week (20-40 in the Summer) and we work with a system where co-workers will drop their shifts and you can augment your assigned hours by picking up those shifts. During shifts, you, and at times a co-worker, are responsible for greeting, consulting with and aiding every patron that approaches one of our desks. By no stretch of the imagination are you expected to know everything about each piece of equipment, space, or software but you should have a well-rounded base of knowledge and be familiar enough with the landscape of our library to know where to get the assistance needed in addition to learning how to handle a request in the future from the source you sought help from. To OVERSIMPLIFY, the job can be reduced down to great customer service, a natural ambition to learn, following instructions, and knowing how to effectively Google search.
