Job Summary: The North Florida South Georgia VHA - Middleburg Outpatient Clinic is recruiting to fill two (2) Health Technicians in its PRIMARY CARE & OUTPATIENT CLINICAL SERVICE. The Health Technicians will assist the medical and nursing staff through technical, specialized or support services for the Diagnosing or treatment of patient illness or medical conditions.
Major Duties:
- Duties include, but are not limited to: The Health Technician will be assigned at the Middleburg Community Based Outpatient Clinic Responsible for assisting medical and nursing staff through technical, specialized, or support services Receives requests for specimen collection Performs various patient care procedures such as: Positioning patients for procedures Collection of specimens Dressing applications Demonstrates proper use and care of medical instruments and accompanying accessories Responsible for the management of lab supplies and equipment Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively (electronically, by phone, and in person) with both internal and external customers Uses appropriate clinical documentation in CPRS, VISTA, or other patient records systems Proficient in the use of various VA software and programs Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician/PD05063A Physical Requirements: The work requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying light items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. They work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients.
Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Individual Occupational Requirement: This position's duties range widely in type and include support duties to medical and health personnel. You must have technician experience which is experience that requires application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the Surgical Technician position to be filled. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirement, you may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Use proper specimen collection techniques (phlebotomy/ venipuncture, finger sticks, urine, stool, sputum, tissue, etc...); selects appropriate site for sample collection to decrease patient discomfort; use correct containers and labels; monitor patients for adverse reactions. Use proper clinical procedures to perform medical test (EKG, urine pregnancy test, blood glucose/finger stick, hematology, chemistry); measure, record, validate, and document health information; adheres to infection control procedures. Effectively give information to multiple audiences that is clear verbally and written; logically think when describing facts and concepts; actively listens to others with an understanding. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
