Staff Development Instructor - Acute Care RehabThe Rehabilitation Educator serves as a role model, consultant, change agent and facilitator in assessing learning needs, planning, implementing and evaluating educational activities for instructing staff and or patients/families. Works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team. Position requires the ability to devise own work patterns, to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization, to be flexible and self-motivated. Represents the institution in community and professional development activities. Creates protocols and clinical guidelines. Provides orientation and continuing education. Assures standardization and best practice through use of protocols. Provides educational activities in a cost effective and efficient manner. Reports educational opportunities to Rehabilitation Management Council and monthly updates to rehabilitation staff. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Must have all the basic educational requirements of their discipline (Physical, Occupation, Speech Therapist)
Interdisciplinary experience required
2 years of clinical experience required with focus in area of specialty preferred
Appropriate license in good standing, registration or certification based on the discipline.
Employee must provide evidence of successful completion (or an approved audit) of a
CPR training course within the past two years or successfully complete a CPR training course
(or audit with approval) within six months of hire.

Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time.
The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
Clinical duties include
• Interpretation and implementation of referrals; evaluates patient (for related discipline) through assessment and testing. Establishes functional baseline to be used throughout treatment as a gauge of progress and physical improvements.
• Provision of education and treatment planning
• Patient care goal setting and estimating length of treatment
• Provision of direct patient care, for related discipline
• Family and community education
• Team meeting involvement
• Supervision of related discipline Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, students and volunteers
• Program development
• Coordinate student placements
• Serving as a resource person in areas of expertise
• Providing inservices in areas of expertise for the Bronson Rehabilitation System
Administration duties include
• Documenting patient treatment plans, treatments performed, and progress; indicates condition in relationship to established goals, and alterations to treatment plan to enhance therapy potential.
• Participating in process improvement
• Serving on hospital committees and task forces
• Participating In marketing activities per Rehabilitation Services Marketing Plan.
Team Member Orientation and Orientation Evaluation
• Competency assessment of the same discipline.
• Analysis of educational needs with feedback to the rehabilitation supervisor
• Development and implementation of orientation action plan
• Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of orientation
• Document all training and competency verification
Inservices
• Assess and identify staff learning needs
• Develop educational approaches to meet learning needs
• Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of inservices
Annual and Ongoing Team Member Competency Assessment
• Performs scheduled competency assessments for therapists within the discipline of the rehabilitation educator.
• Conducts first hand observation of skills for therapists to assess competence as needed or as part of ongoing competency assessment
• Operates a system of retraining and competency verification by exception for therapists.
• Documents all retraining and re-verification of competency
• Provides ongoing feedback to Rehabilitation Supervisor, Manager or Director, for individual and group performance issues that fail to respond to retraining.
• Assists the Rehabilitation Supervisor, Manager or Director in the annual evaluations of therapists and assistants.
Continuing Education
Assess and identify learning needs of therapists
• Plan educational offerings/programs based on national therapy association standards for continuing education
• Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of continuing education offerings/programs and gives feedback to the leadership team.
• Develops and provides a positive work climate and supports the overall team effort of the department.
• Supports rehabilitation practice research
Assess and identify learning needs of assistants and support personnel
• Plan educational offerings/programs based on national therapy association standards for continuing education
• Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of continuing education offerings/programs
• Assumes responsibility for rehabilitation assistants and support staff development
• Develops and provides a positive work climate and supports the overall team effort of the department
• Uses various forms of education models to ensure competency
Develop best practice standards for outpatient PT/OT/SLP/ Pediatrics
• Implement a process that assesses “practice patterns”
• Implement a system for evaluating best practice standards for the practice patterns
• Implement a system for execution of best practice
• Develop a system for outcome studies
• Review best practice standards regularly as new information, research, technology and outcomes dictate
Writes and prepares documents
• Procedures that form the basis for a measured competency
• Competency assessment instruments
• Materials for inservice, training and continuing education
• Articles for publication in Bronson and outside publications
• Memos and daily communication notes
General
• Coordinate, provide and/or participate in orientation of new staff and students. This may include students, externs, health professionals, ancillary services staff.
• Assist the Rehabilitation IS Facilitator with the MediLinks system and documentation requirements.
• Develop educational methods to meet learning needs based on learning principles, audience needs and evidence based practice.
• Provide education consultation and coaching services to all departments as requested.
• Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of learning,
• Negotiates learning opportunities and environments.
• Documents orientation, in-services, and continuing education per Education Services requirements.
• Supports/participates in research and development of projects and programs that support Bronson’s Plan for Excellence.
• Maintains competencies in area of expertise.
• Creates and updates treatment guidelines based upon best practice standards and educates staff.
• Coordinates the guidelines and documentation for all disciplines
• Creates weekly updates for leadership staff to monitor long and short term goals
