Purpose within the Organization:

The athletics social media content assistant will aid the athletic communications staff in the promotion and coverage of athletics events on social media. The position will assist with the social media marketing of all 20 of GCU’s NCAA Division I sports.

Primary Responsibilities / Accountabilities / Essential Functions:

  • Assist in live event coverage of home athletic competitions including capturing behind-the-scenes content for Instagram stories and creatively branding the content with specialized platforms.
  • Assist in planning and executing athletics’ TikTok strategy.
  • Assist in creation of social media graphics to promote marketing initiatives, recruiting, accomplishments and more.
  • Assist in brainstorming and planning of social media strategy using content calendars.
  • Craft messaging and schedule out posts for promotion of athletics initiatives including upcoming home athletic events.
  • Assist athletics social media staff in other related tasks as assigned.

Equipment Used and Responsibility:

  • Strong familiarity and knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, Facebook), best practices and trends.
  • Passion for sports is preferred.
  • Background with social media monitoring and scheduling tools is preferred, especially Hootsuite.
  • While professional-level camera skills are not required, a creative eye for capturing content on phones is needed.
  • Athletic events are commonly on nights and weekends, so an understanding of working nontraditional hours is required.

Experience and Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
