Salary Range: $69213 - $108859 Per Year

Job Summary: You will serve as a MATERIALS ENGINEER in the LABORATORY DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major Duties:

  • You will provide the foundation for testing and evaluating various materials used in submarine overhauls.
  • You will provide technical expertise support in the field of metallurgy.
  • You will present orally results of investigations to senior leadership.
  • You will often work with experimental metals and alloys, where properties and structure of the material may not be known.

Qualifications: GS-0806-11 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience evaluating various materials used in submarine preservation. *Experience in the field of metallurgy, with emphasis on metals. *Experience working with a wide range of new or experimental materials during failure analysis. *Experience preparing final materials engineering investigation reports. *Experience providing technical guidance to various production shops on the application of materials. GS-0806-09 In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience assisting with the evaluation of various materials used in submarine preservation. *Experience assisting in performing the testing of metallurgic materials to assure compliance. *Experience assisting with the preparation of final materials engineering investigation reports. *Experience in the field of metallurgy, with emphasis on metals. *Experience preparing shipyard process instructions for shop use.
