Job Summary: You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER (ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR) in the PROVOST MARSHALL OFFICE/MARINE CORPS POLICE DEPARTMENT of MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII. Major Duties:
- You will be respond to all traffic accidents occurring on the installation and thoroughly investigate, supervise the scene, and/or direct all events that transpire at the scene of an accident.
- You will review statements taken, interviewing witnesses, interrogating suspects, and reconstructing the scene of an accident as needed.
- You will coordinate base traffic surveys of suspect or obvious traffic problem areas and monitors them in order to maintain statistics on accidents for traffic enforcement/control programs in coordination with installation Safety Office.
- You will prepare charts, graphs, slides, and taking photos for presentations for various offices such as Public Works, and Safety and Command Groups.
- You will conduct radar system detection to enforce speed limits and sobriety checkpoints to identify and deter drinking and driving violations.
- You will analyze traffic accident statistics and forwards recommendations for traffic safety improvements/modifications.
- You will ensure all Police Accident Reports and Incident Complaint Reports are complete to include identifying, locating, and interviewing all witnesses, suspects, and completing document statements in accordance with appropriate regulations.
- You will ensure that photos and proper measurements are taken at the accident scene in order to reconstruct the events of the accident, to include: calculating vehicle direction of travel, appropriate speeds, road conditions, and human factors.
- You will perform traffic law enforcement using specialized equipment such as radar, Breathalyzer, and must be able to qualify/certify in these specialized areas and on necessary equipment. Must be certified in using stationary and mobile equipment.
- You will conduct investigative stops, questions, detains, and issues traffic citations as required. Ensures the removal of hazards on roadways, or any structure that may be detrimental to safe public transport.
- You will respond to and investigate complaints while enforcing federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DoD, Naval, and Marine Corps regulations and installation directives, rules, and regulations.
- You will perform motorized, walking, or bike patrols of the installation.
- You will respond to emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service during the watch. Responds immediately to, and conducts preliminary investigations relating to critical incidents aboard installations.

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing law enforcement and accident investigation duties involved with responding to traffic accidents; taking statements; directing all events that transpire at the scene; conducting traffic stops; reconstructing the scene of an accident; sets up and conducts checkpoints/roadblocks in an effort to reduce criminal activity and ensure motor vehicle safety; reroutes traffic to maintain an adequate traffic flow; insuring Police Accident Reports and Complaint Reports are complete.
