Salary Range: $105383 - $137000 Per Year

Job Summary: This position is located in Social Work Service, Boise VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Boise, ID. The Incumbent serves as the Supervisor to the Outpatient Substance Use Treatment Program, which includes Outpatient Services, Intensive Outpatient Services, Ambulatory Detox, Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) and Contingency Management.

  • VA Careers - Social Work: https://youtube.com/embed/enRhz_ua_UU Assists in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; develops individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing staff. Provides regular updates to Core Leadership and makes proposal for staffing, programming, budget and operational needs that impact the Specialty Addiction programs. Ensures all of the team is providing the following core services to Veterans in the Specialty Addiction Programs: individual, couple, group and or family therapy for general mental health diagnoses that include substance use disorders, case management, medication management, nursing services, psychological testing, peer support services, Tele-mental health services and same day access services for immediate needs. Works with the Local Recovery Coordinator to implement all VACO directed peer program changes in regard to clinic set up, training, and workload. Promotes the integration and incorporation of Peer Support services in Mental Health while ensuring PSS's use the Recovery Model as core guidance in all of their interactions with Veterans. Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised. Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters. Implements disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews and approves or disapproves leave requests and certifies timecards. Assures that subordinates are trained and fully comply with the provisions of safety regulations. Performs a wide range of services and provides technical assistance to the State, local, and private agencies and universities. Works closely with the Chiefs of Psychiatry, Social Work, Psychology and the ACOS of Behavioral Health, keeping them apprised of program updates. Qualifications: Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency Requirement - Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to dependently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker GS-13 Experience and Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers. Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion. Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service. Ability to provide staff training and development. Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience in substance use disorder programs, clinical work in substance use disorder programs. Experience with program data and performance improvement.
