We're seeking a detail-oriented Guitar Inspector to join our team at the distribution center. In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring the quality of guitars and amplifiers entering our warehouse by conducting thorough inspections, identifying mechanical and cosmetic defects, and supporting our supplier quality initiatives through detailed documentation and feedback.

This position requires regular standing and walking, precise hand coordination, and the ability to perform detailed troubleshooting. You'll need to fully understand product specifications, make necessary adjustments using specialized tools (calipers, files, truss rod wrenches, and screwdrivers), conduct minor repairs, and tune test products to meet Fender's high quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and the technical skill to maintain our commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Perform incoming inspection on guitar and amplifier components and assemblies for conformance to specifications using company quality standards
  • Determine appropriate inspection characteristics based on risk and supplier history, documenting as "Inspection Plans"
  • Document inspection results, summarize findings, and initiate corrective actions with suppliers as needed
  • Analyze inspection escapes and implement improvements to quality protocols
  • Perform repairs on guitars and amplifiers to address defects and fulfill warranty claims
  • Complete inspections for cosmetic flaws, uneven surfaces, and sound deficiencies
  • File bone nut slots to specifications and make necessary component adjustments
  • Use precision measurement tools to verify specifications and tune guitars for playability
  • Ensure all components meet finish criteria and are installed correctly
  • Provide technical training to Fender employees and dealers as required
  • Polish instruments to quality standards and perform
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred
  • Basic MS office skill
  • Required: 2- 4 years receiving inspection experience with background in either woodworking, sheet metal fabrication or electronic manufacturing
  • 1-2 years’ experience and/or training, preferably in production inspection and guitar playing experience
  • Strong guitar building, woodworking and finishing skills, in addition to a full understanding of raw material specifications
  • Excellent product knowledge of all models in current and past production
  • Knowledge and skills with fret leveling/dressing
  • Guitar playing background
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with use of calipers, micrometer, digital multimeter, guitar building hand tools, feeler gauges, soldering equipment, and buffing wheel
