Landscaper (Grounds Maintenance Worker 2)
This recruitment is for one (1), regular, full-time position located in Salem, OR (4190 Aumsville Hwy SE) and is represented by Oregon Public Safety Association. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants and may be used to fill future vacancies.

Overview of Position:
As the Landscaper (Grounds Maintenance Worker 2) you’ll be part of a dynamic team that keeps
Landscaping & Turf Care:
Design, install, and maintain landscape features and irrigation systems
Assess and treat soil, plant, and lawn health issues
Mow, edge, fertilize, and apply pesticides/herbicides
Manage wildlands and wetlands in compliance with state and federal regulations
Equipment & Facility Upkeep:
Perform basic tool, vehicle, and equipment maintenance
Clean outdoor areas: walkways, parking lots, drains, and trash bins
Handle seasonal duties like snow and ice removal
Administrative Tasks:
Request and collect supplies and parts
Track inventory and maintain records of tools and completed work
Supervise temporary or assigned workers and coordinate contractors
Monitor permits and inspections; generate estimates and incident reports
Oversee wetland documentation and special projects

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, firefighters, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers. You will be automatically enrolled into the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) program. Employees who are Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS; the salary range noted above reflects base salary only.

Minimum Qualifications:
Three (3) years of landscape experience
OR
An associate degree in landscape technology, horticulture, turf management or a closely related field AND eighteen (18) months of landscape experience
The ability to obtain a Public Pesticide Applicator license within six (6) months of hire is required in addition to any qualification experience. If hired you will work on a training plan for completion.

Working experience that demonstrates knowledge of horticultural and ground keeping practices and standards.
Work experience that shows knowledge of how to operate and maintain all types of ground maintenance equipment including but not limited to: riding lawn mowers, tractors, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws and hedge trimmers.
Knowledge of and experience working within OSHA rules and regulations.
Experience running and maintaining a commercial irrigation system.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of turf care, landscaping design, equipment and area maintenance.
