Ideal for students who have begun gaining relevant experience and are building their skills through internships, part-time jobs, or significant projects. Typically aimed at sophomores or juniors who have completed a combination of introductory and advanced coursework.Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated student graphic designer to join the Marketing and Communications team. In this role, you will provide creative design solutions for university campaigns and projects. As a proactive and passionate designer, you will not only contribute innovative ideas but also play a vital role in protecting the university brand and maintaining strong client-designer relationships by setting clear timelines and deadlines and presenting your concepts.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Client Collaboration:
- When assigned to work with other departments, act as a liaison between departments and the design team, understanding their objectives and translating them into effective visual solutions.
- When necessary, attend client briefings and actively participate in discussions to grasp project requirements and goals. Proactively communicate with clients to provide updates and present design work.
2. Creative Design:
- Create visually appealing and impactful designs that meet the objectives of each project, adhering to the established university brand guidelines.
- Develop a deep understanding of the target audience for each project and design with their preferences and needs in mind.
- Produce a wide range of design materials and templates, including but not limited to posters, banners, stickers, t-shirt designs, social media graphics, presentations, and digital assets.
3. Idea Pitching:
- Develop innovative design concepts that resonate with the target audience and effectively communicate project goals.
- Prepare and deliver persuasive presentations to internal stakeholders, showcasing your design rationale and its alignment with project objectives.
- Incorporate feedback from clients and team members to refine and enhance design concepts.
4. Project Management:
- Meet project timelines and deadlines to ensure clarity and alignment between clients and the design team.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and maintain a high standard of quality.
- Proactively communicate project progress, potential roadblocks, and solutions to clients and team members.
5. Relationship Building:
- Establish strong working relationships with clients through effective communication and professionalism.
- Actively seek feedback from the design team and clients to improve design outcomes and strengthen partnerships continuously.
- Collaborate with team members, leveraging their expertise and insights to enhance design projects.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in graphic design software from Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other relevant design tools.
- A creative portfolio showcasing your design skills, conceptual thinking, and ability to translate ideas into compelling visuals.
- Great communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and rationales effectively.
- Detail-oriented approach to design, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Strong organizational skills, enabling the management of multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proactive problem-solving attitude and ability to collaborate within a team-oriented environment.
- Previous experience in design projects, client interactions, or presentations is a plus.
Physical Demands

- Walking around campus weekly to change out posters and signs.
- Changing out sidewalk signs that could weigh from 5-30 lbs

Base Rate Per Hour:
14.00*Must exemplify the university Honor Code, including the Dress and Grooming Principles and Expectations
*Preference will be given to students who can work during academic breaks
