Job Summary: Employee will serve as a Motor Vehicle Operator located at the Veterans Healthcare System in Perry Point, MD.
Major Duties:
- Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Transports patients/residents to and from medical facilities for healthcare services/treatment, includes loading and unloading passenger from wheelchair to vehicle. Operates with skill, ambulances for emergency transport, sedans, station wagons, and vans; loads/unloads heavy patients by stretcher when using an ambulance. Assures comfort, seatbelt use, and safety of the passenger. Communicates courteously, with tact and respect when in close contact with passengers, including those who are irate. Loads/unloads heavy cargo on the vehicle bed and builds the loads to prevent shifting/falling of cargo. Operates large trucks to transport laundry, food, refuse, and other cargo. Operates various types of vehicles safely, includes: one-half ton pickups, standard and automatic transmission, snow removal equipment with hydraulic attachments (e.g., power tail gates, compaction equipment, etc.). Makes minor repairs to vehicles, such as change tires and basic maintenance. Handles controls for proper driving, backing, starting and stopping, vehicle width/length/height/weight to judge clearances, turning radius, etc. Interprets and follows instructions and trip tickets; and submits reports to supervisor of motor vehicle operations. Performs other duties as necessary. Work Schedule:5:00am-1:30pm, 6:00am-2:30pm., 7:30am-4:00pm, and 11:30am-8:00pm. DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: This position requires a current, valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class "A" with passenger endorsement "P" with no restrictions to the passenger endorsement. Do not upload a copy of your CDL license at this time. If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your current, valid, and unrestricted Commercial Driver's License.
Qualifications: PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Moderate physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate, back, and turn vehicles. Additional physical effort is used to load and unload vehicles. Depending on the material being transported, objects lifted may weigh up to 100 pounds. The employee must remain mentally attentive at all times in order to successfully accomplish assignments involving driving. The incumbent will be required to work in all types of weather conditions. The incumbent will be working indoors as well as outdoors. There may be occasions when the incumbent is required to operate a motor vehicle in inclement weather conditions such as snow or ice storms, wind, fog, and other wet conditions. The incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of exposure to serious accidents or other conditions. The incumbent will be exposed to various driving conditions and traffic patterns. The incumbent will be required to drive vehicles having a gross weight ranging from 10,000 up to 80,000 lbs.
