About the Department
The Environmental Health division within Human Services and Public Health (HSPH) department is seeking a Community Health Specialist to join their team. In this position, you will be working in a supportive team environment and respond to customer/client needs via various communication platforms.

About this position type:
This is a full-time, benefit earning position.
This position is internally classified as a Community Health Specialist.

In this position, you will:
- Educate environmental health (EH) customers and callers of the requirements of EH programs and their public health impact.
- Act as a liaison to local and state agencies (MN Department of Health & Agriculture, City offices, IRS, etc.)
- Provide written communications for all environmental public health within our software platform, Digital Health Department (DHD), and other data base systems.
- Prepare information for Hennepin County website and HC SharePoint.
- Assist callers and walk-ins regarding EH program data.
- Provide information to callers on selected infectious conditions and environmental health hazards.
- Assist in hiring and training of support staff.
- Assist Program Manager in developing and writing performance standards related to the use of EH data base systems.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in public health, nursing, behavioral/social science, or an approved related field.
- Four years or more of experience performing community health assessment activities.
Nice to have:
- Experience:
- With project management.
- In cannabis-related public health programs.
- Knowledge of principles of environmental health, epidemiology, and emergency preparedness.
- Ability to:
- Develop and write clear procedures for the environmental health computer software program, and DHD, as well as act as main contact for staff and customers.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with cities and health departments outside Hennepin County jurisdiction.
- Resolve client complaints.
- Organization management of environmental health data: collection, maintenance, extraction, and purging.
Candidates with fluency in another language in addition to English are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.
