About this role:

The Director of Deposit Operations will lead and optimize our deposit operations department. This critical role will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, accurate, and compliant processing of all deposit-related transactions, while continuously seeking opportunities for process improvement and technological advancement.


This person will be a visionary leader with a deep understanding of banking regulations, strong operational management skills, and a proven track record of building and motivating high-performing teams.


In this role you will

  • Support the Bank’s “People First” focus and rules of engagement-maintaining a professional demeanor, working as an active member of the CNOB team, providing all clients excellent service, always striving to make CNOB “A Better Place to Be”.
  • Oversee all aspects of daily deposit operations, including but not limited to; Check processing, including image exchange, exception handling, and returns, ACH operations (origination, processing, settlement, and disputes), Wire transfers (domestic and international), ATM and debit card operations, including settlement, reconciliation, and fraud monitoring, Statement rendering and reconciliation. 
  • Oversee the end-to-end operational efficiency and integrity of all payment systems, including ACH, Wire Transfers, Card Networks (credit/debit), Bill Pay, and future payment rails. 
  • Manage daily payment processing, settlement, reconciliation, exception handling, and dispute resolution across all payment channels. Garnishments, levies, subpoenas, and escheatment.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reconciliation of all deposit-related general ledger accounts.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive operational policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Manage vendor relationships for all third-party systems and services related to deposit operations.
  • Find opportunities for process automation, efficiency gains, and cost reduction within deposit operations.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscapes to ensure the bank remains at the forefront of deposit operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of deposit operations professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all relevant banking regulations, including but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC, Reg E, Reg CC, Reg DD, and privacy regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with Compliance, Legal, and Audit departments to ensure all procedures and processes meet regulatory guidelines.
  • Develop and implement robust fraud prevention and detection strategies within deposit operations.
  • Maintains an ongoing commitment to continuously and thoroughly evaluating emerging trends in operations, systems, processes, FinTech and regulations.
  • Partner effectively with other departments, including Retail Banking, Treasury Management, IT, and Digital Operations to ensure seamless operations and a positive client experience.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for deposit operations on cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders on operational matters

Must haves

  • Strong “People First” interest and ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant Federal and State banking regulations.
  • Expertise in the payments ecosystem, including a comprehensive understanding of traditional payment rails (ACH, Wire, Card) and a strong command of real-time payment systems (e.g., FedNow, RTP network).
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of all deposit products and services.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of core system features and functionality. Sufficiently versed to provide the functional expertise required to improve system utilization, and adept at problem resolution. 
  • Strong familiarity with the concepts and industry best practices in banks of $14- to $25 billion.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in bank operations, with at least 5+ years in a leadership or management role within deposit operations.
