Description

JOB TITLE: Director, Clinical Development Operations

Reports To: Chief Development Officer

LOCATION: Remote - candidates must be based in one of the following states to be considered: IN, MA, NC, NH, NM, NY, PA, SC, SD, TX, or WA.

SALARY RANGE: $181,000 to $216,000. The midpoint of the range is $200,000. The ideal candidate would be hired at or around the midpoint.


ABOUT THE POSITION

The Director, Clinical Development Operations, serves as a leader within the development organization, driving the operations planning, execution, and integration of clinical programs. This individual ensures clinical timelines, budgets, and resources are aligned with corporate objectives and facilitates collaboration across functional areas including clinical and medical affairs, patient advocacy, and competitive intelligence. The role also provides operational guidance to optimize program delivery, mitigate risks, and align development programs with corporate goals to ensure successful product development and launch readiness.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute clinical program operations that align with the company's overall development goals.
  • Drive operational excellence by overseeing clinical timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring on-time and on-budget execution of clinical programs.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration between clinical development, clinical operations, regulatory, medical affairs, patient advocacy, and competitive intelligence teams to ensure seamless integration of activities across all stages of development.
  • Oversee conference planning, congress planning, and scientific communication strategies to enhance program visibility, scientific engagement, key opinion leader (KOL) relationships, and competitive intelligence gathering.
  • Develop and implement competitive intelligence strategies to monitor the evolving landscape, support strategic decision-making, and anticipate market dynamics.
  • Provide guidance to clinical teams including documentation and oversight of risk assessment, mitigation planning, and contingency development to address potential program challenges.
  • Manage program governance, including steering committees and other decision-making bodies, to ensure alignment, accountability, and progress towards key milestones.
  • Serve as a key member of the development leadership team, contributing to clinical development strategy, decision-making, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Support/create comprehensive training content for internal and external use and direct onboarding materials. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences required. Advanced scientific degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical and/or medical affairs experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Direct experience in ophthalmology clinical development strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop cross-functional teams and manage multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical program governance, risk management, cross-functional leadership, and competitive intelligence.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
