SUPERVISOR: Director of Design Engineering

CLASSIFICATION:  Full-time, salaried, exempt (Professional Exemption) 

LOCATION:  Albuquerque, NM (Remote may be acceptable)

 

High Voltage Engineer for Utility-Scale Solar / BESS Solar Projects

Summary Description

Gridworks is seeking a highly skilled and motivated High Voltage Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing substation design drawings for renewable photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role involves providing technical support for design development and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

With 2 GW of solar and battery energy storage projects we are well positioned for continued success in the rapidly growing clean energy sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze substation design drawings for PV and BESS projects.
  • Provide technical support and guidance during the design development phase.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with project managers, design engineers, and other stakeholders to optimize design solutions.
  • Conduct technical assessments and provide recommendations for design improvements.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical input as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documentation and reports.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in high voltage engineering and renewable energy.

WORK ENVIORNMENT

  • The ideal candidate should be physically able to sit in front of a computer every workday for long hours at a time.
  • This job could operate in the main office or remote.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and headsets.
  • Work can be stressful at times, fast-paced and demanding during peak seasons in project development.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • This is largely a sedentary role working in an office environment.  This position would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend, stoop, kneel or stand as necessary, manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipment as necessary to perform all aspects of the job. 

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position.
  • You may be required to infrequently work weekends or after normal business hours to support project needs.
  • Flex-schedules are negotiable.

TRAVEL

  • Limited travel is expected in this position.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in high voltage engineering, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
  • Strong knowledge of substation design, PV systems, and BESS.
  • Proficiency in using design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and safety.
