NAMI HelpLine Research Internship
The NAMI HelpLine is a free, nationwide peer-support service providing information, resources, and support to people with mental health conditions and their families, providers, and the public. Key to the NAMI HelpLine's service is making sure we have the best possible resources available to people who are looking for help. With nearly every interaction, our HelpLine Specialists recommend resources to help people get the help they need when they need it.
The person in this position will have a basic knowledge of mental health conditions, research skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to ask questions if you need clarification. HelpLine Interns support the annual review and update of our Resource Finder - the nation's largest directory of mental health resources - review and update of the Warmline Directory, and development of the NAMI Knowledge Center, amongst other responsibilities.
The NAMI HelpLine Resource Intern will report to the Senior Manager of HelpLine Awareness and Resource Development.
Minimum Time Commitment Requirements:
A minimum of 8 hours per week for a minimum of 4 months. Interns will work with their supervisor to determine what days and times within the Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT workweek will work best for their schedule.
Professional Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled Master of Public Health (MPH) student
- A student or mental health professional, and/or someone with lived experience - either as a person with a mental health condition experiencing recovery or as someone caring for a loved one living with a mental health condition
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Analytical ability with problem-solving skills
- Excellent research skills and resourcefulness
- Basic knowledge of mental health conditions, treatments, recovery, and mental health care systems, with an interest in learning more

- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, punctuality, and attention to detail
- Respect and compassion for people affected by mental health conditions with a desire to support impacted individuals, families, and communities
- Passion to learn about mental health conditions, resources, and mental health systems
- Willingness to ask questions of your supervisor to get clarification
- Ability to accept and implement constructive feedback
- Self-driven and comfortable working independently
- Communicative and comfortable asking for support when needed
