TEGNA is looking for a visionary Vice President of Content & Story Development to lead the creation, development, and execution of original news, nonfiction, and sports programming across platforms. This is a senior leadership role for a proven showrunner or content executive with deep experience in national show development, team leadership, and multiplatform strategy.

In this role, you’ll shape the future of storytelling at TEGNA—developing original show formats, overseeing a national production team, and delivering compelling content that resonates with local and national audiences. This position reports directly to the Chief Content Officer.

What You’ll Do:
•    Develop and launch original national and cross-market shows for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms
•    Oversee a national content production team creating episodic shows, specials, and scalable series
•    Serve as executive producer for flagship programs, ensuring format consistency and creative excellence
•    Lead TEGNA’s streaming strategy, including programming for FAST and OTT channels
•    Apply proven linear producing experience to support show pacing, packaging, and broadcast innovation
•    Collaborate with station newsrooms, regional leaders, and digital teams to amplify reach and impact
•    Champion TEGNA’s values of integrity, inclusion, impact, innovation, and results

What We’re Looking For:
•    15+ years of experience in journalism, content development, or media leadership
•    Proven track record of launching and scaling original news, sports, or nonfiction programming
•    Experience leading newsrooms and/or national show teams, with strong editorial and production oversight
•    Demonstrated linear producing experience, including live and pre-produced formats
•    Familiarity with podcast strategy, audience development, and audio storytelling is a strong plus
•    Strategic thinker with excellent creative instincts, executional discipline, and collaborative spirit
•    Passion for serving diverse communities through high-quality, multiplatform content
