Summary:

 At Northwestern Mutual, we are strong, innovative and growing. As a key member of the Data Engineering Team, the Senior Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and managing ETL processes to ingest, model, and deliver high-quality data solutions. Our team supports a broad range of initiatives, including senior-level division reporting, enterprise-sponsored datasets, and various operational reporting needs. The ideal candidate will contribute to creating robust data pipelines and innovative analytics that drive informed decision-making across the organization

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering best practices in order to analyze, design, develop, deploy and support software solutions.
  • Develop software using continuous Deployment and integration practices.
  • Participate in an Agile implementation and maintenance of source control and release procedures.
  • Participate in Code Reviews and feedback to the team.
  • Contribute to a collaborative work environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both their individual and team contributions.
  • Identify data quality issues and their root causes.
  • Propose fixes and design data audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 4-5 years of professional experience.
  • At least 4 years of professional software engineering, debugging, analysis, and software documentation experience.
  • Code Knowledge: Python, JVM (Java, Scala), Apache Spark, SQL.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies/DevOps environment.
  • Basic understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Basic understanding of Data Quality and Data Concepts.
  • Basic understanding of Data Integration Patterns and Tooling including ELT/ETL, EII, Replication, Event Streaming, and Virtualization to support batch and real-time data needs.
  • Has or develops understanding of 4-6 subject areas/domains of data.
  • Proficient craftsman on Software and Quality Standards.
  • Advanced programming skills.
  • Ability to explain technical solutions to technical teams.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$102,060.00

Pay Range - End:

$189,540.00

Geographic Specific Pay Structure:

210 - Structure 110: 112,280.00 USD - 208,520.00 USD

210 - Structure 115: 117,390.00 USD - 218,010.00 USD
