The Pharmacist is responsible for project management projects assigned by the Director of Pharmacy including, but not limited to, upgrading, evaluation, implementation, and quality assurance of all aspects of the pharmacy department including Epic and Pyxis. Is responsible for project planning and implementation of the medication portion of interdisciplinary projects along with other members of the healthcare team. Performs the job by demonstrating technical ability, understanding of expectations, and ability to multi-task in compliance with and also assists in revising and updating organizational policies and procedures. Applies knowledge of information systems and the medication-use process to improve patient care by ensuring that new technologies support safe and effective medication use. Understands aspects of pharmacy informatics systems and their impacts on other hospital systems. Supports the functions of the healthcare team in regards to Epic medication dictionary. Supports the mission of the department by ensuing that the right patients receive the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision the Director of Pharmacy. This position will be responsible for managing the various technology and non-technology projects of the department.

Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Applies the knowledge of information systems and the medication-use process to improve patient care by ensuring that current and new technologies lead to safer and more effective medication use. 
•    Regularly supports the implementation of new technologies and maintenance of current technologies leading to safe and effective medication- use by working to develop system improvements
•    Develops and maintains a system monitoring discrepancies for both nursing units Pyxis ADCs as well as Anesthesia ADCs. 
•    Participates in the identification and resolution of system problems and procedures and evaluates solutions to identified problems. 
•    Analyses and identifies user/education and system problems; works towards resolution of problems through application of technical knowledge and provide communication and follow-up. 
•    Organizes and maintain all files and subdirectories related to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee Meetings 
•    Develops all graphic presentations and maintain all quality assurance monitoring of pharmacy operations
•    Provides education, training, and operational support to staff. 
•    Continually shares operational education outside of structured education and training sessions. This may include physicians, nurses, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians/interns.
•    Oversees ControlCheck and identifies opportunities for re-education and/or process change 
•    Participates in system committees, including but not limited to: BILH EM RFP Task force group, BILH Compounding Oversight group, BILH Hazardous group. 
•    Collaborates with the Director of Pharmacy to ensure all TJC standards are met.
•    Reviews and edits department SOPs and P&Ps
•    Participates in clinical initiatives as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy 
 

Education:

BS and/or PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Residency experience preferred. Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy preferred.

License:

Current unrestricted pharmacy licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years in Pharmacy Project Management required.  Previous hospital pharmacy experience required.
