Job Description

The Research Specialist II, under general supervision, will work as a member of a team providing leadership and support for various watershed assessment, planning, implementation, and social science research programs on a statewide basis.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of a team providing leadership and support for various watershed assessment, planning, implementation, and research programs on a statewide basis.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to address instream water quality issues through the development and implementation of watershed-based plans, delivery of educational and outreach programs, and active stakeholder engagement throughout these processes.
  • Conduct applied social science research focused on stakeholder perceptions, behaviors, and decision-making related to water resource management, conservation practices, and watershed protection.
  • Collaborate with TAMUS administration and faculty; Research and Extension personnel; federal and state agencies; non-profit organizations; and personnel from other universities, centers, and institutes to develop interdisciplinary research projects and competitive grant proposals addressing critical water and social science issues in Texas.
  • Design, plan, conduct, and coordinate experiments and studies in support of various interdisciplinary research projects, including both environmental and social dimensions.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard research techniques; maintain detailed records; analyze and summarize results for inclusion in scientific publications, technical reports, and stakeholder-focused communication materials.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify needs, develop grant proposals, and secure funding to address Texas' emerging water quality and resource management challenges.
  • Lead project implementation, monitor progress and effectiveness, evaluate outcomes, and sustain stakeholder engagement through targeted educational materials, outreach activities, and participatory programming.
  • Handle project management duties including coordination of deliverables, compliance with reporting requirements, and responsible fiscal oversight.
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and collaborate with watershed stakeholders to exchange information, incorporate diverse perspectives, and develop science-based watershed management strategies to improve and protect water quality.
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, technical bulletins, stakeholder reports, and presentations at professional conferences and community forums.
  • Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate students and other technical, or field staff involved in both environmental and social science research activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field and six years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.

- Ability to exert heavy force.

- Ability to work beyond normal business hours as job duties require.

- Ability to interact effectively with various groups including the public, agricultural interests, city and county officials, non-profit and environmental advocacy organizations, river authorities and water resource personnel from Land Grant Universities and state and federal agencies.

- Ability to travel statewide as necessary to perform salaried job duties.
