Overview:

Under general direction, formulates and defines system scope and objectives. Devises or modifies procedures to solve highly complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time and form of desired results. 

Responsibilities:
  • Design & Build Platform Capabilities: Develop, enhance, and maintain microservices, APIs, and tooling that support data ingestion and configuration
  • Hands-On Development: Write clean, testable, and well-documented code in Node.js; implement event-driven integrations using Kafka.
  • Data Persistence & Performance: Work with MongoDB and SQL Server to model data, optimize queries, and implement monitoring and tuning for high-throughput workloads.
  • CI/CD & Automation: Build and maintain continuous integration and delivery pipelines; automate testing, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning.
  • Collaboration & Support: Partner closely with data architects, DevOps, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure platforms are secure, resilient, and scalable.
  • Quality & Best Practices: Contribute to defining and enforcing coding standards, architectural guidelines, and SDLC processes to ensure consistency and maintainability.
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Investigate production issues, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement performance improvements and bug fixes.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Document solutions, run brown-bag sessions, and mentor more junior engineers to foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Alignment with Business Goals: Work with product owners and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions that meet both functional and non-functional needs.

Qualifications:
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • 3+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in backend or full-stack roles.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in Node.js for building microservices and RESTful APIs.
    • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or another event-streaming platform.
    • Strong database skills with MongoDB and SQL Server, including schema design and performance tuning.
    • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Architectural Understanding:
    • Knowledge of event-driven and microservices architectures, scalable system design, and cloud-native principles.
  • Agile & DevOps Mindset:
    • Proven ability to thrive in an Agile environment, collaborate in cross-functional teams, and continuously improve delivery processes.
  • Communication & Teamwork:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive, solution-oriented attitude.
  • Self-Starter & Lifelong Learner:
    • Eagerness to adopt new technologies, experiment with automation, and drive innovation in developer experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience building or contributing to internal developer platforms or self-service tools.
    • Familiarity with additional data technologies (e.g., Snowflake) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).

Specific range is dependent on the labor market where the incumbent will be hired to perform the position. Starting salary is dependent on candidate qualifications and experience.
