Summary:
The ADA/504 Coordinator’s responsibilities include assuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities. The ADA/504 Coordinator is responsible for coordinating American University’s policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities, tracking University progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to persons with disabilities, filing all necessary reports, and providing consultative services to employing units and offices.
The ADA/504 Coordinator receives, investigates, and responds to inquiries and complaints of Section 504/ADA violations, disability discrimination, or harassment based on disability. The coordinator investigates these concerns, institute corrective actions when appropriate, informs the individual of complaint procedures, and assists individuals in filing complaints when needed, this includes interviewing parties and witnesses, collecting evidence, and drafting high quality investigation reports and documents within established timelines, and making finding of facts to resolve complaints, in accordance with the University’s policies. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Inclusive Leadership and Learning and will work closely with the AVP (and other internal units) in managing the day-to-day responsibilities associated with the University's ADA compliance.
As a member of the Office Inclusive Excellence, the ADA/504 Coordinator will serve as one of several entry points in which community members and/or guests of the University can report or seek information on reasonable accommodations, the discrimination and harassment complaint process, and any other accessibility-related matters. The incumbent will work closely with Equity and Title IX, University Human Resources, Office of General Counsel, Student Accessibility Services and other key stakeholders to develop and implement training programs and informational materials for faculty, staff, and students on reporting and adjudication processes related to ADA compliance, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination.
Essential Functions:
1.) Coordinating Policies and Procedures
Coordinates American University’s policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities.
Ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities.
2.) Education and Tracking
The Coordinator will work closely with Equity and Title IX, University Human Resources, the Office of General Counsel, Student Accessibility Services, and other key stakeholders to develop and implement training programs and informational materials for faculty, staff, and students on reporting and adjudication processes related to ADA compliance, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination.
Develop and deliver education and training to groups about disability services.
Responsible for tracking University progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to persons with disabilities.
3.) Assessment and Investigation
The ADA/504 Coordinator receives, investigates, and responds to complaints of Section 504/ADA violations, disability discrimination, or harassment based on disability.
Interviewing parties and witnesses, collecting evidence, drafting investigation reports, and making findings of fact in accordance with University policies.
4.) Community Engagement
Serve as one of several entry points through which community members and/or guests of the University can report or seek information on reasonable accommodations, the discrimination and harassment complaint process, and other accessibility-related matters.
Communicate effectively with diverse populations, establish rapport, and work as part of a university-wide community to resolve concerns in a neutral and sensitive manner.

Salary Range:
85,000-95,000 annually.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
4-6 years of relevant experience.
Four (4) to six (6) years of experience working in disability services, preferably in education/higher education, social services or a community service setting.
Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, special education, social work, human resource management, higher education administration, etc.).
Five (5) to Seven (7) years of related experience conducting prompt, thorough, and equitable investigations regarding allegations of disability discrimination.
Ability to apply ADA/504 requirements to achieve reasonable accommodation utilizing knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws/regulations relating to ADA/504 accommodations.
Demonstrated understanding of best practices in disability services.
Experience developing and delivering education and training to groups about disability services.
Ability to assess and facilitate resolution of employee and visitor requests for accommodations in accordance with applicable laws.
Effectively communicate policies, procedures, and legal concepts in oral and written formats.
Effective project management, organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision and meet stated deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress.
Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques.

Ability to apply ADA/504 requirements to achieve reasonable accommodation utilizing knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws/regulations relating to ADA/504 accommodations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, special education, social work, human resource management, higher education administration, etc).
5-8 years of years of experience working in disability services, preferably in education/higher education, social services or a community service setting.
Experience applying ADA/504 requirements to achieve reasonable accommodations in a higher education setting.
Experience reviewing Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs).
Knowledge and experience in employee relations/human resources.
Knowledge of complexities surrounding disability in a college setting.
