Calvert County Government is seeking an experienced financial professional to serve as the Deputy Director of Accounting. This leadership role supports the Director of Finance and Budget and is responsible for managing accounting operations and ensuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, and other regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Directs daily accounting operations including general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and receivable.
Oversees the preparation and accuracy of financial reports including the CAFR, UFR, and annual audit.
Ensures integrity of accounting system data and financial reporting.
Monitors and analyzes the County’s cash flow, investments, debt, and fund balances.
Coordinates financial audits and serves as a liaison with auditors and departments.
Prepares continuing disclosure statements for bond counsel and state reporting.
Evaluates software vendor compliance and participates in system implementation and training.
Serves as the County's technical accounting resource and stays current with evolving accounting standards.
Represents the County at professional association events and demonstrates financial systems to visitors.
Skills & Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of public agency accounting and fiscal reporting.
Strong leadership, communication, and supervisory skills.
Ability to prepare complex financial reports and maintain strong working relationships.
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)
Training and/or Education:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Experience:
Five years of high level accounting experience preferably in governmental accounting which must include two years of considerable experience managing staff, daily operations, customer service and policy development and implementation.
Special Requirements:
Work is subject to deadlines and frequent interruptions.
Physical Demands:
Operation of keyboard devices.

Compensation Steps:
Department of Finance and Budget
Pay rate: $98,171 - $112,658 annually
Grade 728, contract position, 35 hours per week

This position allows for telework, meaning the employee may be able to work from home or another offsite location for part of the workweek, but they are still required to come into the office regularly. This arrangement is at the supervisor's discretion and may change based on business needs.
