Position Name: Web Development Instructor and Curriculum Developer

Reports to: Indigitech Manager

Location: Canada / Remote

Hours: Full Time Independent Contractor, 37.5 hours per week (must be able to work between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST)

About the role:

Join IFA’s Web Development Education Team. Our Indigitech Mentorship Program offers 12 weeks of instruction in foundational HTML, CSS, and JavaScript concepts. Interested and qualified students then can choose to enroll in our 12 week Phase 2 Web Development Program where they will gain a more in depth understanding of front end web development and collaboration. Phase 2 also involves students working with a partner organization where they will be completing a website capstone project.

How do you fit in?The successful applicant will be responsible for the curricular development (including daily lesson plans, exercise, and materials development) for the Phase 2 Web Development Program and will teach this 12-week course covering JavaScript frameworks, working with Git and GitHub and general deployment. As the primary instructor, you will be providing lessons, examples, assignments, and projects to both teach students and help develop their portfolios. You will also be providing feedback and support to students. You will be supported by our Lead Tech Facilitators who will function as teaching assistants.

This position is for immediate hire, with curriculum development to begin immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities


Technical Curriculum Development and Instruction

  • Develop a 12-week internship course on a JavaScript framework (React, Angular, or Vue) and web development concepts for students that have completed learning the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Teach a 12-week internship course on JavaScript and web development concepts,with a focus on industry readiness and marketability.
  • Teach students directly in a remote setting (via Zoom), on a full time basis as the primary instructor.
  • Incorporate industry experience and trends into curriculum.
  • Collaborate with educators, subject experts, policymakers, and other professionals to develop quality curricula and learning resources.
  • Create stimulating lesson plans for all types of learners and recommend interesting additional resources.
  • Share and/or develop digital resources to optimize classroom learning and ensure ongoing learning outside of formal settings.
  • Assist in the establishment of guidelines for staff to follow when implementing new curricula.
  • Create supplementary teacher and student guides as well as resource packs.
  • Collaborate with other instructors/education team members to support students.

Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements

The following are considered vital job qualifications:

  • 3 years experience as a web developer (minimum 1 year front end web development).
  • 6 months to 1 year of teaching experience.
  • Experience with differentiating lessons and curriculum for diverse learners.
  • Ability to create a safe learning space where participant feedback is appropriately responded to and adjustments are made accordingly.
  • Recent (within the last 2 years) experience working with a JavaScript framework (React, Angular, Vue, etc.).
  • Familiarity with current industry trends for front end web development
  • Experience teaching programming languages (JavaScript or equivalent preferred).
  • Experience teaching configuration of programming environments for Front End Web Development (IDEs, Version control, publishing/sharing projects).
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and strategic directions.
  • Openness to learning.
  • Experience hosting in a remote setting (via Zoom)and a good working knowledge of Zoom functionality.
  • Ability to create, deliver and measure success of web development internship curriculum.
  • Excellent and transparent communication skills.


Preferred but not required:

  • Agile workflow experience
  • Additional courses in instructional design.
  • Proficiency in collaboration and delegation of duties.
  • Assist in the establishment of guidelines for staff to follow when implementing new
  • curricula.
  • Create supplementary teacher and student guides as well as resource packs.
  • Collaboration skills with other instructors/education team members to support students.
