This is an exciting opportunity to join our Claims value stream in IT Delivery, in which you will be working on the infrastructure supporting our customer claims websites, our claims system of record and an ongoing project upgrading our Enterprise Document Management platform.

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure along with the CI/CD Pipelines. We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive individual, who can think creatively to solve problems and meet technical requirements. You must have a keen interest in cloud engineering and be ready to research and learn new tools, technologies and patterns as required.

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for fulfilling their objectives, actively seeking to improve their technical and other knowledge skills focusing on CI/CD and Cloud engineering. The DevOps Engineer learns to embody the core cultural values at the heart of Admiral's success.

The DevOps Engineer will take a collaborative approach consisting of agile practices, processes, and procedures designed to facilitate rapid IT service and product delivery. DevOps emphasizes people (and culture) and seeks to improve collaboration between development (Dev) and operations (Ops) teams with the aim of shortening the systems development life cycle to provide continuous release of high-quality software.

Main Duties

You will be working in our Claims spoke platform engineering team responsible for provisioning and maintaining the platform supporting the Agile Release Trains in the Value Stream under the guidance of Senior DevOps Engineers, supporting the software engineers by automating all aspects of the SDLC through CI/CD and contributing to the delivery of the DevOps and Cloud capability’s strategy.

As part of this your main duties will comprise of:

  • Delivering Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to meet the Value Streams requirements.
  • Applying specific quality standards to all tasks undertaken to ensure that deliverables are accurate and complete.
  • Documenting all work using required standards, methods, and tools.
  • Taking an automation first approach to CI/CD.
  • Having a passion for learning best practices for Cloud Engineering.
  • Applying agreed standards and tools as required, to achieve a well-engineered result.
  • Supporting and maintaining existing solutions and identifying/remediating technical debt.
  • Contributing to improvements of our technical excellence and ways of working within Squad, Chapter and Guild forums
  • Reviewing other engineers code ensuring adherence to standards
  • Ensuring deliverables adhere to our alerting, monitoring, and logging strategy.

Desirable

Experience Required

  • Experience using Azure DevOps for CI/CD.
  • Experience of Azure Security Tooling such as Azure Security Centre and Azure Sentinel.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Power Apps.
  • Understanding of Agile Scrum methodology and practices.
  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.

Essential

  • Experience working with Azure.
  • Experience working with AKS and APIM.
  • Experience of managing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Experience using CI/CD concepts and using tools such as Jenkins/Azure DevOps.
  • Experience of version control systems such as Git.

Salary, Benefits, And Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience. We are happy to see CVs from all candidates who meet the requirements and will be happy to discuss the remuneration package.

For Hybrid workers (within a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to work from the office twice a month. For remote workers (outside of a 50-mile radius of our Cardiff HQ) there is an expectation to attend the office a handful of times a year when required (i.e big meetings, workshops etc).
