About the opportunity:

We are currently looking for a permanent Water Design Engineer to join our growing Asset Adoption department. This role will be home-based, with a preference for a candidate to be located close to one of our offices (Hamilton or Stonehouse).

As a Water Design Engineer, you will undertake design approval and technical reviews on designs produced and submitted by Others (such as Self-Lay Providers) on a range of water infrastructure projects including domestic, commercial, residential, and multiple-occupancy properties. Ensuring that designs produced and submitted by Others comply with all applicable legislations, regulations, and industry and company standards. You will also support, where appropriate and relevant to the role, the development of Last Mile Asset Management and Last Mile Group policies, procedures, standards, and any other relevant and related documents.

Your responsibilities:

  • Review and accept (or reject) all water infrastructure designs for industrial, domestic, and multiple-occupancy projects received from external self-lay providers. Ensuring that all designs comply with current Last Mile Group and water industry standards, regulations, and legislation.
  • Monitor industry developments and contribute to on-going design strategy and business improvement.
  • Make a significant contribution to developing the Water asset adoption capability, services and processes and procedures of Last Mile Asset Management.
  • Work as part of the Design Engineering team to develop, monitor and maintain a standardised approach to the technical review of water designs produced and submitted by Others.
  • Actively participate in industry associations, disseminating and implementing engineering recommendations
  • Provide technical support and guidance to teams and colleagues across LMAM.

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Strong experience of in the water industry in a similar role
  • Significant, demonstrable experience on a range of water network design projects across industrial, commercial, domestic, and multiple-occupancy constructions
  • Ability to assimilate and interpret technical information
  • Detailed knowledge of WIRS standards and guidance
  • Significant project adoption experience with water companies
  • Experience of using a range of IT systems including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
  • Good knowledge of utilities marketplace and water company adoption policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations

Desirable:

  • Experience of providing technical leadership across a range of relevant projects
  • Experience of training / updating colleagues
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
  • Experience of developing design strategies
  • Experience of working within a relevant operational setting

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • SHEA Water

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer Status
  • Higher Degree in approved subject
  • Incorporated Engineer (IEng) recognised by IoW, CIWEM, ICE (or expected to achieve within 6 months)
  • Appropriate Health and Safety Qualification
  • Safe Control of Mains Connections SCMC Senior Competent Person (SCP)
