General Purpose

Computing and Communications Services (CCS) is the central IT department on campus, providing IT infrastructure and central technology services to the U of G community. CCS has a progressive organizational culture, including a strong learning and development focus, and is committed to its Core Values: Service Culture, Integrity, Individual Leadership, Teamwork, Agility, and Communication.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the CCS Manager, Web & Development Solutions, the Analyst II is a member of the team delivering CCS’ website services, including Drupal CMS-as-a-Service, managed web hosting, and campus web project consultation. While these existing services power hundreds of U of G websites today, the team is focused on building next generation platforms to replace them in partnership with the central Communications and Marketing team. Together, we will refresh the brand, upgrade the backend to the latest version of the Drupal CMS, and decouple the frontend with reusable web components, all using modern agile and DevOps practices.

This position draws upon a range of website development, maintenance, customer service and technical support experiences, and a broad technical skill set, to deliver high quality service to the campus community. A successful candidate works closely with other teammates, building relationships and collaborating to achieve team goals. The ideal candidate is an individual leader, demonstrating strengths in non-technical behaviours that model the way for others.

Requirements

Requirements of the position include:

  • A University degree in computer science or a related field along with a minimum of two years related experience in web development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written) with ability to work effectively with both business clients and technical team members;

The following qualities will set a candidate apart:

  • Previous experience building and delivering solutions using the following technologies:
    • Gatsby, React, Next.js, Tailwind, or other frontend web frameworks;
    • Drupal, WordPress, or other backend content management systems;
    • Continuous Integration and Delivery using tools such as Azure DevOps, Gitlab, and GitHub;
    • Pantheon’s PaaS web hosting environment;

  • Previous experience in a higher education institution with demonstrated skills in collaboration, communication, and time management;
  • Previous experience delivering accessible web solutions in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0;
  • Previous experience in agile, DevOps, and a culture of continuous improvement;
  • Previous experience working effectively in a hybrid work environment.
