Role Purpose
The Application Support Engineer delivers operational and administrative support for Neos Networks’ monitoring and service management platforms, primarily Splunk and ServiceNow. Key responsibilities include maintaining dashboards that visualise network health, managing data ingestion from infrastructure devices (e.g. switches, routers, firewalls, Power & Environmental services, etc), scripting automation to enhance alerting and response, and supporting observability-related application services.
The role ensures reliable monitoring across distributed network resources, supports incident response and maintenance activities, and contributes to root cause analysis. It requires strong analytical skills, scripting proficiency (Python, PowerShell, Bash), and solid knowledge of Linux systems, networking protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, NetFlow), and enterprise monitoring practices.
Key Accountabilities
Platform Support & Maintenance
Administer and maintain Splunk environments, including indexers, forwarders, and search heads.
Develop and optimize Splunk dashboards and alerts using SPL and regex extraction.
Support ServiceNow platform operations, including basic administration, workflow updates, and CMDB accuracy.
Ensure data integrity and performance across monitoring and logging pipelines.
Collaborate with infrastructure teams to support core services such as syslog, SNMP, NTP, SMTP, and proxy configurations.
Provide out-of-hours support for critical incidents and scheduled infrastructure tasks.
Automation & Scripting
Develop and maintain scripts in Python, JavaScript, and Shell to automate operational tasks and data transformations.
Integrate Splunk and ServiceNow with external systems using APIs, webhooks, and secure protocols (e.g., SSH, TCP-connect).
Compliance & Security
Ensure monitoring and logging platforms align with ISO27001, Cyber Essentials+, TSA (Telecoms Security Act), and internal security policies.
Support secure data handling and access control across Splunk and ServiceNow environments.
Project Delivery
Contribute to application and infrastructure projects, including onboarding new data sources, enhancing dashboards, and improving alerting mechanisms.
Assist in the deployment and configuration of AWS-based services relevant to monitoring and support operations.
