Position Vacancy: Director of AI Integration & Innovation, Bank Street Education Center (the Ed Center)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)

Reports to: Senior Director, AI Strategy & Partnerships

  • The Bank Street Education Center supports and influences positive learning outcomes for students, educators, and communities every day through research, direct work with schools and communities, and strategic partnerships.
  • The Graduate School of Education offers educator preparation programs that combine the study of human development, learning theory, and sustained clinical practice to produce well-prepared educators ready to help students flourish. 
  • Children’s programs–including the School for Children, Family Center, Head Start, and Liberty LEADS– for children from birth to high school graduation that foster all facets of human intelligence—academic, social, and emotional—so students can thrive in school and succeed in life. 
  • The three instructional divisions are supported by the Development & Alumni Relations Office, the  Communications Team, and the Division of Strategy & Operations, which includes teams responsible for human resources, IT, finances, and facilities. 

Position Summary: The Bank Street Education Center is seeking a Director of AI Integration & Innovation to lead the College’s internal development and adoption of artificial intelligence tools and practices. Reporting directly to the Vice President of the Education Center, this role will partner closely with senior leadership across the Ed Center and the College to design and implement an AI strategy that enhances teaching, learning, research, and operations, while remaining grounded in Bank Street’s progressive, equity-centered mission.

This role will concentrate on building institutional capacity, developing responsible and ethical approaches to AI integration, and ensuring faculty, staff, and students across all divisions are equipped to thoughtfully use AI tools in ways that align with child development principles, progressive pedagogy, and racial equity.

Responsibilities: 

AI Strategy & Integration

  • Lead the design of Bank Street’s internal AI strategy, ensuring it reflects progressive education principles and institutional priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Ed Center and the College’s  leadership to integrate AI into programs, research, administration, and operations.
  • Collaborate with the IT Team to evaluate and implement AI-powered tools that can improve faculty and staff workflows, instructional design, and student learning.
  • Partner with the IT team to evaluate AI tools for security and safety 
  • Stay informed  on AI trends and develop recommendations for their responsible application within Bank Street.

Institutional Capacity Building

  • Build AI literacy in the Ed Center and across the College by developing professional learning, workshops, and resource guides for faculty and staff, including partnering with external experts and partners as needed.
  • Establish ethical guidelines and best practices for AI adoption that align with Bank Street’s commitment to equity, child development, and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Support divisions and departments in piloting AI tools and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Lead cross-functional working groups, including an AI taskforce and a professional learning community with representatives from every division, to ensure consistent and coordinated adoption of AI practices across the institution.

Organizational Learning & Change Management

  • Develop systems for continuous learning and evaluation of AI initiatives at the Ed Center and across the College.
  • Facilitate dialogue and reflection sessions to ensure AI use strengthens, not replaces, human-centered, relationship-driven teaching and learning.
  • Serve as an internal thought partner to faculty and staff exploring innovative uses of AI in their work.

Qualifications:

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of child development, including implications for the use of technology in schools and classrooms, and of AI applications in education, including opportunities and risks.
  • Deep knowledge of  equity in education and progressive pedagogy.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus across diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with instructional design, technology integration, or organizational change management.
  • Comfort with collaborative tools such as Google Suite and Slack.

Experience:

  • Experience leading AI, technology, or innovation strategy in an educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Experience supporting adult learning and professional development, including institutional change management and culture building.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven tools for teaching, learning, research, operations and  administration.
  • Master’s degree in education, organizational leadership, or related field.

Salary Range: $115,000 – $125,000

Additional Information:  

  • This position is contingent upon available funding.
