The Electrical Engineer II- Ops Center Reliability will provide technical support to the Operations Center to ensure system reliability. Prepares and provides technical reports to support the Operations Center in the areas of transmission planning, distribution planning, system reliability, and other duties as assigned.
Location: Hybrid, Pittsburgh, PA at Woods Run Complex
Responsibilities:
- Support daily activities of the Operations Center related to the transmission, sub transmission systems, and substation operations.
- Support activities of the Operations Center related to the daily operations of the Distribution system and associated equipment, as needed.
- Assist in maintaining accurate distribution circuit metrics, tracking of inoperable equipment, and with investigating customer reliability complaints.
- Performs as necessary, day ahead and and/or short-term studies to ensure transmission and sub transmission reliability.
- Assist and work closely with System Planning, Protection, and Compliance as needed.
- Works with Transmission Planning, SCADA, and the Operations Center to maintain the DLC EMS software program and models.
- Develop temporary and permanent operating guides and procedures, as needed, to ensure continued reliability of the system.
- Provides technical support for the Operations Center for various systems and equipment (HPFF Pipe Type cable, MDACs, switchgear, autotransformers,etc.), as necessary.
- Provides technical support for the System Restoration Plan and other Emergency Plans for the Operations Center.
- Participates in emergency preparedness drills (GridEx, EarthEx, PJM Grid Security Drill, Storm Drill, etc.)
- Prepares reports and maintains databases related to the transmission and sub transmission systems and submits reports as required for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provides technical support to Operations Center personnel for the development of systems, processes, and technology solutions.
- Participates in various internal and external committees as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college
- Two or more (2+) years of related experience
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or college
- Utility experience
- Familiarity with SQL and Python
- Experience in SCADA systems, OMS systems, and State Estimator Modeling.
