We have a new opportunity for an Operations Scientist to work for Telespazio UK, on-site at ESA-ESAC (Spain).
Are you ready to contribute to one of ESA’s most exciting Cosmic Vision missions? We’re seeking a talented Scientist to join our team in preparation for the launch of a groundbreaking space mission aimed at characterising Earth-like planets orbiting sun-like stars.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of astronomical research and software development, supporting the Science Operations Centre (SOC) and collaborating with leading institutes across Europe.
🔭 Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain data processing pipelines for telemetry calibration.
- Validate and test internal and consortium-provided software.
- Automate testing procedures and maintain documentation.
- Write and update use cases for validation and acceptance testing.
- Participate in calibration activities and ensure data quality.
🎓 Required Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a related field.
- Strong background in astronomical data analysis.
💡 Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Python and scientific data processing.
- Understanding of calibration concepts (noise levels, PSF, flat fields, etc.).
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work independently and within a small team.
🌟 Desirable Skills
- Experience with ESA missions.
- Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g., Docker).
- Knowledge of formal testing practices.
