Job Description:

We are hiring an experienced Jr. Data Engineer to work for us as our direct, W2 salaried or hourly employee. You will work for our client, a government agency, in a potential long-term, multi-year contract position.

• Work on a fully remote basis for 37.5 hours per week maximum.
• Start work as soon as possible.
• Work on a team that connects and corrects databases to power analytics for executives doing high-impact work throughout the state of Pennsylvania. It strengthens the client s competitiveness and supports strategic efforts that drive economic growth and prosperity.
• Work on a team that previously provided one of its clients with a full-fledged analytics dashboard spanning permitting and HR that has been used by executives to drive decision-making and policy planning.
• Work in a group of small, fast-moving teams who collaborate closely and learn from each other.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Must currently live in the Eastern or Central Time zone.
• Must be a hands-on, collaborative data engineer who is comfortable with autonomy and who ships fast and iterates.
• Proven experience in designing and maintaining robust data pipelines that are performant on big data sets
• 3+ years of experience programming in SQL, Python and relevant packages like Pandas, and with Apache Spark
• Writing clean code that utilizes object-oriented paradigms when appropriate
• Strong foundation in data modeling, architecture and data warehousing
• Working in a CI/CD environment and deploying pipelines
• Hands-on experience with a cloud platform, preferably Azure (Azure SQL, Synapse, Databricks, etc.)
• Building visualizations in Power BI
• Communication skills to translate data asks into technical specs for a pipeline and visualization
• Understanding of data security best practices and how to implement them
• Passion for staying updated on emerging technologies in data engineering
• Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or equivalent professional experience
  
  

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Experience in agile development methodologies and version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus
• Experience working with NoSQL databases
• Ability to work with cross-functional, inter-agency teams
• Working on small teams in fast-paced environments
