Step into the dynamic world of Productsup's Operations Team, where you'll be at the forefront of managing our diverse hybrid infrastructure. From physical servers to virtual machines, AWS resources, and spanning multiple locations, this infrastructure provides a rich landscape for a skilled engineer. With your expertise in networking, Ansible, Python/Go, and Debian, you'll play a vital role in fortifying, optimising, and expanding this intricate technological ecosystem.

In your first 3 months you will:

  • Gain a foundational understanding of our platform, including its architecture, components, and workflows.
  • Acquire hands-on experience deploying new systems within our infrastructure and resolving basic support requests, under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Familiarise yourself with the engineering department's structure, processes, and collaboration tools, establishing relationships and understanding team dynamics.

In your first 6 months and beyond you will:

  • Delve deeper into the architecture of our platform, exploring its detailed design, components, and interconnections..
  • Familiarise yourself with our service level objectives (SLOs) and key metrics, actively contributing to their definition, monitoring, and refinement.
  • Develop and execute plans and forecasts for infrastructure capacity, anticipating future needs and scaling resources accordingly to meet business requirements.
  • Implement optimizations and enhancements to improve service performance, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Utilize automation tools such as Ansible to streamline and enhance the management and configuration of our infrastructure components and servers.
  • Provide valuable insights and recommendations on new infrastructure designs and initiatives, leveraging your expertise to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Participate in emergency response, On Call Duty rotations, and Postmortem Analysis, responding swiftly to incidents, conducting thorough root cause analysis, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

What you bring to the team

  • 4+ years of experience in Linux administration, preferably with Debian or Ubuntu, within a DevOps or SRE capacity, demonstrating a deep understanding of system architecture and operations.
  • Proficiency in utilising alerting and telemetry tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Zabbix, ElasticSearch, or similar platforms, to monitor, analyse, and troubleshoot system performance and reliability.
  • Extensive experience in networking, including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, BGP, firewalling, and troubleshooting, ensuring robust and secure communication between system components.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, or PHP, enabling automation, scripting, and tool development to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker containers and orchestration technologies like Kubernetes (k8s), facilitating scalable and resilient deployment of microservices and applications.
  • Expertise in configuration management software such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet, enabling consistent and automated management of infrastructure resources.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or similar platforms, enabling continuous integration, delivery, and deployment of software changes with reliability and efficiency.
  • Knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS) like MySQL, SQLite, or Postgres, facilitating effective management and optimization of data storage and retrieval.
  • Proven independence, proactivity, and a solution-oriented mindset, driving initiatives and resolving challenges effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a track record of identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions to complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
