This role in summary
Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for a Materials Planner opening to join our material organization at our Ottawa Ohio location. This position will plan, authorize, schedule and control the acquisition and timely delivery of supplied material to support production operations. This position will also help maintain inventory accuracy and work with the materials team to develop and implement improvements to inventory control on the shop floor. In addition, this position will maintain open communications with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement and Engineering on any condition that may affect excess or shortages of materials for production.
Your responsibilities will include
Coordinate timely acquisition and delivery of supplied material to support production and service requirements
Establish and maintain superior supplier and production operation relations through written, verbal and electronic communications
Schedule and communicate special shipments of parts and materials to meet production requirements
Establish and maintain Materials Requirement Planning data in the release module to ensure inventory levels are sufficient to support lean objectives and meet production requirements
Control, audit and adjust material within specified operating ranges to meet goals for accuracy and cost containment
Identify the need for and support implementation of lean principles, pull systems and consignment / Point of Consumption (POC) arrangements with suppliers
Create yearly action plans to reduce Raw Materials and Work in Process inventory. Plans would include the reduction of obsolescence, excess and uncommitted inventory
Participate in, and make recommendations for the effective shop floor management of consignment controlled inventory
Participate in the phase in and phase out of model lines, controlling part availability for successful model line launches, and obsolescence when models are discontinued
Support materials key metrics reporting with timely rollup of information, and assistance with special reports management
Participate in special initiatives that support Master Scheduler’s efforts to drive improved production schedule stability and Division metrics reporting
- Other tasks as assigned
Minimum requirements
Bachelor’s Degree OR 2+ years of experience in material management within a manufacturing environment.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of material flow related to production requirements planning
Knowledge utilizing scheduling tools and software (SAP, MRP, MPS, and APS systems)
Proficient in Google Applications.
Preferred skills and experiences
Flexibility and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks
Must possess sound judgment, planning and analytical skills to relate to management, production and supply base contacts
Self-motivation to identify, analyze and work to find solutions to flow issues
Willingness to learn to implement and maintain consignment / POC agreements and Just in Time principles
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Outstanding people skills, with the ability to lead teams to drive exceptional results
Basic problem solving skills and ability to use them to drive root cause identification and problem solving
