About The Role
As a research scientist at Owkin, you will have the opportunity to improve medical research using state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms. In particular, you will develop and apply ML optimization techniques on large volumes of multimodal patient data to further Owkin’s target and drug discovery objectives. In this role, working with interdisciplinary teams, your unique expertise will help develop pipelines that will identify new drugs faster and more effectively.

About The Role
As a research scientist at Owkin, you will have the opportunity to improve medical research using state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms. In particular, you will develop and apply ML optimization techniques on large volumes of multimodal patient data to further Owkin’s target and drug discovery objectives. In this role, working with interdisciplinary teams, your unique expertise will help develop pipelines that will identify new drugs faster and more effectively.
In Particular, You Will
As an expert or a leader on our projects, you will:
- Drive the application of advanced machine learning methods to optimize patient selection for therapeutic target intervention
- Maintain a regular scientific watch in machine learning related fields;
- Conduct methodological research in key areas to unlock novel applications, including writing scientific publications and patents.
The successful candidate will have a ‘team-first’ kind of attitude; be independent, curious and detail-attentive; thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; and be fun to work with.
And
- Demonstrated expertise in one of the following fields or related machine learning field, including scientific publications at top ML conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, …):
- Operations Research
- Optimisation
- Representation Learning
- Strong analytical skills;
- Good command of coding in python, or another scientific language, and strong grasp of programming best practices
- Passionate about the intersections of healthcare and AI
- PhD in Computer Science-related field (machine learning, applied mathematics, computer science, software engineering) or equivalent experience;
- Knowledge and experience with data science tools and concepts: you have already achieved projects with real-world data and are familiar with scikit learn, xgboost, cross validation and statistical tests
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, Jax, etc.) : you have already worked with one of these frameworks for one of your projects
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Highly organized and meticulous about details; capable of tackling complex problems logically and effectively; fun to work with; honest; excited to work hard in a dynamic, fast-paced environment;
The following are not necessarily required, but would be a plus:
- 1+ years of post-doctoral experience; Industry experience a plus.
- Expertise in one of the following subjects, or related ones: reinforcement learning, bayesian optimization, optimal experimental design, evolutionary/genetic programming, optimal transport;
- Experience in target discovery, drug discovery or related activities, with demonstrated impact (high profile publication or industrial application);
- Experience in causality / response to treatment;
- Experience managing multi-stakeholder research projects;
- Experience training large deep learning models;
- Publications in high-impact journals and conferences.
