Role purpose

The Quality Engineer is a role that is responsible for quality of the various aspects of product engineeringfrom inception to deployment and production support. By designing and building tests which are businessfacing, the role will support the engineering team with workflow changes and functional verification. Thisrole, in conjunction with one or more teams, also ensures robust quality by assessing usability, productbehaviour and non-functional considerations of delivered functionality in software. The QualityEngineer role will use a combination of manual and automation test capabilities and will have knowledgein UK financial services preferably within a Life and Health Protection domain.

The quality engineer role will combine manual and test automation engineering capabilities withleadership and behavioural attributes that focus on business outcomes delivered in a consistent way ofworking that drives the success of the business and its clients.

Primary Accountabilities and Outcomes
  • Ensures quality is "baked-in" to software by identifying and designing test cases for the system under test.
  • Ensures quality is inspected appropriately using manual and automation testing techniques.
  • Develops and implements test plans for each phase of the software development and manages test case traceability and documentation
  • Participates and provides quality input into any requirements or analysis of solutions, features or non-functional requirements.
  • Provides support for software or solutions. Takes initiative in troubleshooting even if they are not the 'primary' quality engineer and supports quick and effective resolution.
  • Contributes positively to the team, provides relevant and appropriate inputs to enable effective team outcomes to be delivered.
  • Ensures any key person risk is minimised by working with others, appropriately documenting and automating work.
  • Effectively manages work, whether assigned or taken.
  • Ensures dependencies, issues or risks on other teams are known and owns remediation of such.
  • Must be able to work UK hours

Core Skills & Knowledge
  • Experience working within a team, working on a single software product or component.
  • Domain knowledge in (life & pensions)
  • Has a growth mindset and excitement about tackling the next challenge with a team, understands that growth comes from continuously developing through hard work.
  • Will test the status quo and enjoys thinking about and implementing innovative ways to solve problems - and in doing this is not afraid to fail!
  • Strong, multi-year experience as a member of teams working in Agile-based environments. Experience in collaborative delivery, working in co-located or remote team structures.
  • Experience in end-to-end test engineering.
  • Ability to use structured query languages to investigate database structures and identify test data.
  • Experience with automation of scripting, testing and coding (tools such as Cypress/Playwright/Specflow preferable)
  • Writing new C# coded tests
  • Creating Gherkin syntax user tests
  • Maintaining/developing underlying framework
  • Test definition and implementation
  • Experience utilising continuous delivery techniques to move software into production environments.
  • Experience testing software in multiple operating environments.
  • Considers commercial aspects of decisions across teams and when making or participating in design or implementation decisions.
