About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. We propel entrepreneurs and enterprises to scale the heights of their potential. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 8,300 employees and generated over $947 billion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About You

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion
  • Embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

About The Role

We are looking to add an experienced Senior Recovery Lead to the Shopify Recovery Team.

This team's main objective is to assist merchants who are having trouble managing outstanding balances on products including Shopify Capital, Shopify Payments, and Shopify Plus subscriptions. The team is made up of people who are experts in their field, and remain merchant focused while mitigating losses for Shopify.

  • Liaising with Legal teams to understand regulatory complexities in the regions Shopify offers services.
  • Setting Recovery strategy and priorities for the Merchant Lending business.
  • Identifying opportunities to add value to Merchant Lending products through Recovery, and being consistent with Shopify’s merchant-friendly ethos.
  • Using data in many capacities:
    • Identifying opportunities to gain efficiency and automate workflows
    • Identifying trends and patterns within the Recovery landscape
    • Sharing insights with the Underwriting and Product teams to enable Shopify to manage risk more effectively and grow responsibly
    • Utilizing data-driven insights to make informed decisions and optimize Recovery efforts
  • Working with partners in Merchant Lending and elsewhere to implement new strategies.
  • Being the expert required to review the Recovery Operations Team’s work and provide approvals on escalations and constructive feedback.
  • Developing and tracking metrics to measure the Recovery Operations Team’s impact, and using them to identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Generating regular reports on Recovery performance, delinquency rates, recovery rates, and other key metrics.

You probably have experience with:

  • Direct small to large business lending recovery/collections
  • Leading a large operational team in different time zones, supporting individual growth, providing feedback, identifying areas for efficiency gains, and unlocking additional value
  • Stellar leadership and team management skills, with the ability to optimize, challenge and develop a high-performing team
  • Experience with driving, influencing, and adapting to change
  • Motivating a team and developing a healthy team culture
  • Using data to unlock insights into business processes and driving improvements and efficiencies
  • Proven success in cross functional collaboration
  • Experience in recovery management in a lending or financial services environment
  • Strong knowledge of recovery strategies, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
