About The Role

As a key member of the Shopify International Product Partnerships team, you’ll directly manage engagements with our fast-growing and most innovative app partners, advancing our product over the long term and helping create advantage for our merchants.

This role will be based in Japan so fluent Japanese and English are requirements for this role.

In this role, you'll become an expert on Shopify's strategy, aligning our goals with those of your partners. You should be able to execute transactions with extreme effectiveness, demonstrating a deep understanding of all product details. This role requires a results-oriented individual who is accountable and capable of building and prioritizing a pipeline of opportunities. A key part of your role will be fostering deep trust with founders, operators, partners, and investors in the ecosystem, understanding their goals and ambitions, and focusing on the highest impact opportunities to grow Shopify market share in Japan. You will be expected to anticipate, tackle, and own problems within your area, fostering a culture of extreme accountability focused on impactful end results.

You will own exciting and challenging problems, opportunities, and results, and build alliances from Shopify's product strategy and green path forward. You will recommend and execute viable alternatives when faced with shifting product priorities, and dig deep into the diligence on every deal, uncovering and mitigating risks to Shopify. Creativity and ownership in solving the hardest parts of the hardest problems of projects are key.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the local Merchant use cases that app partnerships will unblock at scale, for Merchants in Japan
  • Identify new partnership integration opportunities that have high potential to drive new merchants to Shopify
  • Lead discussion amongst cross functional teams within Shopify including Product, Engineering, Shipping and International to execute on various opportunities that impact the success of merchants
  • Identify the most important Shipping, Merchandising, Marketing and Conversion, Data, and Order/Inventory Management app partnerships that will enable Shopify to close product-market fit gaps in Japan, aligning with Shopify’s International mission
  • Support business case and relationship development with key Payment partners [gateways, wallets, card services and other local payment methods], in order to accelerate time to market for Payment Partner teams [Shopify Payments and Partner Payment Platform teams]
  • Negotiate contracts with multiple strategic partners in Japan


Requirements For The Role

  • Experience building product partnerships in Japan in any of the following app categories: Shipping, Merchandising, Marketing and Conversion, Order/Inventory Management or Payments
  • Experience in navigating and negotiating contracts with enterprise organisations in Japan
  • Experience of collaborating with a range of business units and internal stakeholders, including International, Marketing, Product, Engineering and Design
  • Self-directed individual and being able to thrive on change and prioritize effectively
  • Fluent Japanese and English
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, you are comfortable drafting documents internally and externally


Bonus Experience And Qualifications

  • Understands product integrations, API’s and the development and execution of strategic roadmaps.
  • Experience in business development and building growth strategies and verticals
  • A strong sense of urgency around your work, investment in the team, the company, and the ability to hold yourself accountable to the highest standard of excellence.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote and fast-paced environment. Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships and excel in a cross-functional environment.
  • Creative problem solver and critical thinking skills with a bias towards action and being a doer.
