Key Responsibilities
- Refine and produce detailed architectural and interior construction drawings based on designer-provided layouts.
- Convert 2D layouts into 3D models and renders using software such as SketchUp.
- Ensure all drawings and models comply with BC Building Code and relevant construction standards.
- Collaborate closely with interior designers to maintain design intent while improving clarity and accuracy of technical drawings.
- Maintain and organize CAD files, layers, and drawing standards to ensure consistency and accuracy across projects.
- Update and modify existing layouts, including floor plans, elevations, and sections, based on project revisions.
- Assist in preparing presentation materials and visualizations for clients and internal review.
- Provide technical support to the interior design team, including material specifications, dimensions, and detailing.
- Review drawings for constructability, identifying potential conflicts or design issues early.
- Stay current with industry best practices, CAD techniques, and interior design trends.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Completion of a 2- or 4-year technical diploma/degree in drafting, architectural technology.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in drafting and design for light industrial, commercial, or interior projects is an asset.
- Familiarity with Building Permit drawings or an equivalent combination of training and professional experience.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and produce architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings
- Knowledge of general construction practices and applicable national, provincial, and local building codes, including BC Building Code.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD)—specifically AutoCAD 2018+ and 3D SketchUp—as well as MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate and resolve design or constructability issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of interior designers, architects, and other professionals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read, write, interpret, and analyze complex documents.
- Capable of responding to time-sensitive drawing or site plan requests and addressing related inquiries from the interior design team.
